USB boot support is not always supported. Have you tried booting any other OS before this?

Boot Error in black screen or after showing the linux booting procedure ?
It seems the USB MBR is missing ...

Is it a normal USB drive ?

Did u select the pen drive as main booting device? Ok. Try to format
the pen drive ,again load the os in pen drive. Just like to know which
tool you are using.

Try to use "universal usb installer"

yeah try to use "universal usb installer" to make bootable usb drives.
Unetbootin and startup disk creator donot work always.

Yes. I did the formatting part. I was using UNeBootin to create the bootable USB backtrack file.

Always use YUMI (google it) its a multiboot installer you can have many live distros in one pen drive. I have bt2 , ubuntu , knoppix , and one anti-virus on my 16gb peb drive. Its Awesome !

Hi,
I installed it the way BT5R2 is installed with persistent support. It was working fine. So, I think u can try it from http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/index.php/Persistent_USB  . Hope this helps. :)
