Hack ISP for a faster speed connection

Hi Guys,

 

Came accross this article regarding increasing the internet speed by hacking the ISP.

Firstly, to avoid confusion, this hack is about a cable modem and not ADSL modem. I could be quite possible to do this if the ISP is using cable modem to limit the network node speed and not doing anything at the gateway. So as the article says, it would depend on the ISP network config. If they are too lousy then it might work.

the article in theory looks good ,
but jumps few steps which are important too
like what does it mean by decrypt the image file and encrypt it
again ? its not a single click operation to do so , rite?

it depends on what algo is used for encryption , what keys if involved
etc
so it turns out to be lame if these steps are not identified and
explored !

As said ealier by Shreyas Zare, it says about the DSL modem of ISP. it does not take into account the other type of connections. If the Physical Medium you are using is it self limiting the connectivity, the above hack is useless.

What is explained in this article is nothing but age old  thing and more popularly known as cable modem uncapping. Its like fooling your modem to think one of your local host is the config server and making the modem to download your uncapped config file.

I had done this back in 2002 on my surfboard  when  DOCSIS was not that mature .I had successfully uncapped the limits imposed by my ISP.The only challenge was reversing the docsis config file which got easier by open source tools which could edit docsis files. Currently I am not sure how many tools are  available which can read and write docsis 1.1 and docsis 2.0

I totally agree with Shreyas this will work for Cable Modem. To hack ADSL ISP you need to change SERVICE PROFILES in RAS. If you get link from METRO network like ethernet from switch it can be hacked for more speed.

SIFY and EXCEL BROADBAND can be hacked easily as it works in METRO network.
