One of the nurses at the Loh Dispensary said health officials from Port Vila have been deployed to Torres, to determine if these locals are really diagnosed with COVID-19; and if this is true, the question remains as to how it was transmitted.
He said testing has been done, but further tests are required to confirm the results. Some of these locals tested positive previously, he said. He said the Ministry of Health (MOH) will confirm the COVID-19 status for the suspected cases once assessments are finalised.
TORBA Provincial Health Manager, Henry Wetul, said the health teams were deployed following a request from TORBA Provincial Health.
This was after a lot of people were experiencing symptoms, but they were not sure if it is flu or COVID-19.
He said the request to MOH was made to determine whether the people really had flu or COVID-19.
Wetul said they are yet to know the outcome of the deployment.
