VNPF GM’s case still under investigation

The contributions of members of the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) are managed in accordance with the VNPF Act.

The assurance was made by the VNPF Board, via a statement yesterday afternoon, as it emerged that VNPF General Manager (GM), Parmod Achary, is facing sexual harassment charges.

“The Board wishes to assure each and everyone of our members that what is circulating in the media and social media regarding the GM has nothing to do with Members’ funds,” the statement relayed.

“The GM has not been formally charged as the case is still under investigation. The VNPF Board is the Trustee of Members Funds and any concerns from Members should be directed to the Board through its Secretary.”

A very misleading article by the Board members of the VNPF.  

The truth is, Mr Achary has been formally charged by Police and the Prosecution.  The Vanuatu Police Force intercepted him at the Airport

over the weekend (Saturday) in an attempt to travel out of the country on a one way ticket. They arrested him, questioned and later released 

him on Police bail.

He was rearrested on Tuesday 1 March at the premises of the Magistrate Court before a formal application to remand him was made by the

Prosecutions.  He is now remanded on bail with conditions.  

The next stage is the PI (Preliminary Inquiry) on 28 March before the Chief Magistrates.  Thereafter he will take his plea in the Supreme Court.

During the PI, the Office of the Public Prosecutor will confirm the total number of charges laid against him.  Obviously, there are more than one 

offence committed which means more than a single charge.

Having mentioned the above, it is obvious that the investigation stage has long gone.  Hemi taem blong Kot hearing!
