VNPF GM Achary.
Achary appeared before the Magistrates Court yesterday, after he was arrested over the weekend and cautioned by Police.
It is alleged that sometime between 2020 and 2021 on several occasions, the GM of VNPF harassed three of his female staff.
Achary was allowed bail, but on conditions that he must not interfere with Prosecution witnesses, directly or indirectly, and be restrained from entering the VNPF building at Port Vila until further orders of the Court.
He is also prohibited from leaving Efate for any work-related purposes, and must reside at his residence.
The VNPF GM is warned that if he breached his bail conditions, he would be arrested.
Achary will appear before the Magistrates Court for his Preliminary Inquiry hearing on March 22, 2022.

VNPF Has Gone Silent
- With the scandal of the Vanuatu Provident Fund General Manager Parmod Achary rocking the country, the financial institution that safeguards its members pension fund has gone suspiciously quiet.
I tried calling our provident fund to find out what’s happening with all the ongoing projects? VNPFs SESS (Student Education Support Scheme, this replaced MESS)? How is the business coping with this controversial issue?
No press releases, no statements, nothing. Are we just supposed to sweep this under the rug like it’s just another walk down the Seafront?
Whatever happened to the old VNPF rhetoric that ‘this is the people’s company and the people’s money?’ Now we the ‘people’ want some answers, we want some reassurance that VNPF is still being managed well despite the allegations towards the General Manager.
I was informed that Achary is still the GM, no suspension, no explanation and he is out of reach. If the GM is unable to talk given the fact that he is waiting for his court date and since he still is the GM, then he can mandate one of his executives to speak to the members of VNPF, for both formal and informal sector.
This isn’t just going to go away and I hope you’re not planning on making a statement after your hearing, which will be 19 days from now.
The rule of law is no one is above it and according to the fundamental rights and freedoms of each individual, we are all innocent until proven guilty, but this is not about that.
This is about one of the biggest landlords in the country whose boss is currently being dragged through the mud and we the people whose money is being kept in this institution is wanting to know if this scandal has impacted its operations? If it has impacted the flow of finances for students on the SESS programme?
I spoke to a few VNPF members to get their perspective on how they took the news and I have to admit, it was really insightful.
A Tongoa islander was worried about his savings, questioning if the head of institution is no longer able to enter the premises, what does that say about the work ethics of the rest of the staff?
A former VNPF member and Efate resident added that the truth will be revealed in court and no one, regardless of their status in society can hide themselves from it.
I understand that VNPF staff are being loyal to their boss but keep in mind, it isn’t his money, it’s the people’s funds and all we want is answers.
