PRESS FREEDOM FAIR: We Are Never Writing 30
May 5, 2023, 6-9pm
Quirido Bistro, TUCP Compound, Elliptical Road, Quezon City

Two days after World Press Freedom Day and on the third year since the shutdown of ABS-CBN’s broadcast operations, journalists and media practitioners are coming together to push back against red-tagging and continuing attacks against Philippine media.

Dubbed “Press Freedom Fair: We Are Never Writing 30,” members of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines and partner-organizations will gather on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 6-9pm, at Quirido Bistro, TUCP Compound, Elliptical Road in Quezon City for a night of performances and expressions of solidarity.

Among those expected is Cagayan de Oro-based Cong Corrales, who filed a complaint on Friday morning with the National Privacy Commission to compel Facebook to disclose information on the identity of the persons behind Facebook accounts which red-tagged him.

Jonathan de Santos, national chairperson of NUJP, will also address fellow-journalists. He was recently red-tagged on air by anchors of SMNI.

Former Kapamilya journalist Tarra Quismundo will perform while former TeleRadyo staff and now PUP Broadcast Communications Department chair Kim Fajardo will talk about his experience during the ABS-CBN shutdown.

Bulatlat editor-in-chief Ronalyn Olea will also share her thoughts about the recent takedown of a Bulatlat post on Facebook as well as Meta’s decision to remove the verified status of Bulatlat’s Facebook page and change its status to “not recommendable.”

The event is organized by NUJP and its Metro Manila chapters, in partnership with the Philippine Press Institute, Altermidya, FOCAP, College Editors Guild of the Philippines, Concerned Artists of the Philippines and IAWRT.

Other performers include TV5’s Justinne Punsalang, Banda Para Kay Frenchie Mae and Gabriela She Lang.

The event will be hosted by Tita Krissy Achino and Bulatlat’s Janess Ann Ellao.
