Yesterday, we announced NuGet 3.0 Preview on our blog:

http://blog.nuget.org/20141112/nuget-3.0-preview.html

Please check out the post and try out the 3.0 Preview release as part of VS 2015 Preview.  We hope to have the VS 2012 and VS 2013 drops available from CodePlex next week.

API v3

With this release, we’ve made a lot more progress on our API v3 backend and the client/server connectivity.  We still have a lot to do and we expect we’ll iterate on the resource structures quite a bit between now and 3.0 RC next calendar year.

We do not expect anyone else to implement an API v3 backend at this time.  If you’d like to see what’s going over the wire for now though, feel free to take a look.  We’ll engage more as the resource formats and the protocol solidify as we work toward 3.0 RC.

API v2 Compatibility

Despite API v3 being in use if the user chooses to connect to the “preview.nuget.org” package source, we’re still going to have full compatibility with API v2.  Again, we don’t expect anyone else to implement an API v3 backend right now—your API v2 systems will work just fine in NuGet 3.x.

Let us know what feedback and questions you have.

Thanks,

Jeff Handley
