So I happened upon http://localwiki.org and it got me thinking just a little bit.

Why not start one up for New Ulm!?

Most of the pilot communities are larger cities, but I think that a wiki for smaller communities could be useful. It would be some work to get the content up on it, but would there be any interest in this? Think it is a good idea?

Just looking for thoughts/donations. :-)

Sincerely,

Sorry, no donations here. :-)

I've been thinking about something like this for years, particularly a
photographic tour site. I think it would be a great idea. I wonder if it
is something you should try to start/host yourself or if it would be
worth pitching it to the chamber or whatever org hosts the other city
related website.

No worries, I think I can host it on my own VPS for now.

I really think it would work better to just get something going, show how it can work, and then maybe pitch it to the Chamber later once we have things actually working and being used. That's just my opinion.

Its a great idea in my opinion. I think Aaron has a good point to talk with the established promoters first to see if they have bandwidth/budget for such a thing first. There are other organizations locally that can host too (the County is one for instance under certain circumstances ).

I think a plan is needed for community involvement and how to build a core group that can be kept energized to make and maintain content as the project ages. I would love to be involved in something like this!
