Eh up folks, and Happy New Year to those not in Birnam!

I’ve begun looking at places we could go for the late May holiday.  Following suggestions that it would be nice to camp at Glenbrittle for a few days I’ve stared by looking at prices for Tuesday-Sunday (28th-2ndJune) that are within striking distance of Skye so that we’re not doing an epic drive on the “changeover” day.  I’m happy to extend the area of search in any particular direction if this fits in with folks’ bagging desire.  I’ve gone for places that sleep 8, but really this is just to get the ball rolling.

https://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/dornie/528088 Dornie near Eilean Donan castle: £1116 for 6 nights = £139.5 per person if filled (8 people).

https://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/glenelg/9008210 Glenelg: £1374 for 6 nights = £229 per person if filled (8 people).

However a lot of the places I have found tend to stick to the Saturday to Saturday rule, so I have also looked at places on or near Skye itself on that basis.

I guess at the moment the questions are mostly related to “format” and numbers, and we can work out something that works from there.  So are you interested in doing something this week, and what would be your ideal trip?

Cheers,

Grinner

Hi guys,

I am probably in Ireland that week with the family visiting friends in County Donegal. Never been to Ireland but it is meant to be nice, if not quite as good as NW Scotland! Have a good trip!

I should be ok to take this week off.

I think I'd prefer to be based on the mainland after Glenbrittle, so Dornie would be good.

We're in :-) like the idea of starting with camping at Glenbrittle and then moving indoors. The Dornie one looks good for location - lots of hill bagging within reach. However the Glenelg one looks really nice / more comfortable and still a good location - just a bit more driving involved (also think it's £171 per person if filled). Would be happy with either of those ones.

If not many people are interested and it's less economical to book a house, then would also be happy with Glen Affric hostel for a few days.

We're also in although we probably won't be able to join you at Glen Brittle.  Happy with either of those two with a slight preference for Dornie.

I should be able to come and join you at glenbrittle for a day or two as we're in Scotland that week anyhow.

Okay,

As it stands there's only 6 people for the later week, but I can see the sense in sticking with 8 beds to allow flexibility.

If doing that the I think we should go with Dornie, as easy access to the A87 is going to be better for Mark and Jon's bagging requirements: the Mam Ratagan is a great drive/cycle but a bit of a pain if you needed to do it every day. The cost for Tuesday to Sunday would be £1116, so 186 each with 6 people for 6 nights: I was assuming folk would travel up to Skye on Saturday so "changeover" is Tuesday to allow more time on Skye.

Cheers,
