JONI MITCHELL, Big Yellow Taxi

THINGS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED
Angels Advise: “You never know what you have until you have lost it”
JONI MITCHELL, Big Yellow Taxi
If we thought the things we take for granted, instead of appreciating them as if they were gifts, the list is endless. Open your eyes in the morning and see all around us, jumping out of bed, wash and dress without anyone to help us, without difficulty breathing, walking, running, dancing, all basic functions only appreciate when we fall sick, have an accident or get older and begin to need the help of others. But even for those who do not avail themselves physically, there are still reasons to savor life. In his story, Little Herr Friedemann, Thomas Mann describes the ecstasy of his protagonist paralyzed when he realizes how much he still has to thank life. "He understood that all can enjoy and it is absurd to distinguish the experiences" happy "you are not. He learned to accept emotions as arose ... be sad or happy ... and to love the tenderness that flowed from it ... because that peaceful happiness was his creation. "
Think about all those abilities you usually consider normal. Is it not remarkable that you are able to eat alone, driving, remember things or cut your nails without help? Try to realize the presence of God in all your everyday tasks and give thanks for your ability to perform.
