Hi all,

This should get some healthy discussions happening on the groups again!  I've put them up as polls on a few groups, but would like to staunch more in-depth replies from those whose members are a bit quiet.  So, without any further ado, here goes (my answers written in red if negative, blue if positive):

1) Someone staring or otherwise invading your personal space

It is definitely impolite behaviour to do so, regardless of where you are.  Anyone caught doing this needs to be taken aside and given a three strike warning.  Staring at people makes them uneasy, and can easily put first-timers off nudism for life.  Invading personal space like taking unsolicited photos, standing too close to someone when talking to them or mooching off other people's food and drinks is also a big no-no.  Sure, many nudists like to be altruistic, but don't take advantage of it.

2) Someone wearing provocative /sexy clothes

Yes and no.  If it is an 'adults only' venue like Paradise Lakes or Caliente or some other venue where they have lingerie dances, I have no problem with this.  But in a venue where there are families with young kids around, it is not appropriate.

3) A couple being over affectionate, not just kissing or cuddling

Depends where they are.  Nudism and naturism is about freedom to be yourself and be true to your feelings.  Having a kiss and cuddle with your partner or greeting a nudist friend is fine.  Openly groping and bum patting in full view of others is not.  If you want that sort of thing, then you could go to a swingers club.

4) Some one being fully dressed

I am more a clothing optionalist than a nudist, so this doesn't bother me.  There are times when you will need to encounter clothed people at a nudist venue such as cooks and chefs, tradesmen, labourers whose industries require clothing for health, hygeine and protection.  I don't mind first timers to nudist places being dressed so they can 'try before they buy'.  Though if you are going to a place which *is* nudist and you insist on being fully dressed the whole time then I would question your motives for being there in the first instance.  My favourite C/O event is ConFest in which everyone is free to go dressed or undressed wherever and whenever they want, so it's basically a non-issue for me.

5) Someone wearing a swimsuit at a naturist beach pool

If they want to wear one such as for protection from sunburn, that's their right.  Though it is much nicer swimming nude.

6) Patrons using strong language

Again, depends on where they are at the time.  If it is a Christian orientated nudist place, I would advise caution.  If it is a secular venue with an adult dominated crowd it doesn't bother me (even though I am a Christian myself!)

7) Adults bullying and/or molesting the kids

It would certainly make me mad.  Being the victim of excessive bullying when I was kid by both classmates and some of the teachers, there is nothing that gets my gander up more than an abused child - not just physically, but sexually, mentally and emotionally.  It causes a lot of personality problems and defects in the child when he/she grows up.  I think that there could be police officers at every nudist beach and club to enforce behavioural standards towards the kids.

8) Owners getting drunk and hitting onto other guys' women

Sadly, I've had this happen to me once at Sunshine Families when I went on New Year's Day in 1999, and TAN magazine also published a letter about the owner of one certain nudist establishment in north QLD who got drunk one night and grabbed some guy's wife by the tits and asked if they were real or filled with silicone.  I don't know whether this story is true or not as we've only got their word, but having conversed with him at length on the Net he doesn't seem to be as bad as what many nudists paint him out to be.  As we are both considered pariahs and mavericks in the nudist movement in Australia, I am starting to feel some sympathy and kinship towards him.

9) Smoking and using illegal drugs

Depends on where it is.  Being an ex-smoker after having smoked between 1992 - 2003, I hate it now and wish I had never taken up the habit as I'm getting bad coughs in the winter and hate the smell of second hand smoke.  Pure tobacco is actually far less harmful than normal cigarettes, this is because of the additives put in the paper to give it a 'kick' and make the habit addictive.  I urge nudists whether they smoke or not to write to the cigarette companies to ask them to put a stop to this.  Illegal drugs....well, I will admit that I like the odd joint but that's only once or twice a year and would certainly NOT do it at a nudist camp!

10) Talking about another nudist behind their backs

Yes, I hate this heaps!  When I left a couple of Yahoo! nudist groups this year, I learned that some of the members on there started a "Ding dong the witch is dead!" thread where they gloated over me leaving and saying "Thank God he's f..ed off, now we can get things going again!".  Gossip is disgusting, hurtful and harmful behaviour because it causes dissension and a lack of trust with our fellow human beings.

11) Shabby, run down, broken and dirty facilities

Yes.  It is a big turn-off, especially for the more younger and upmarket people who like five star ritzy venues.  I've been to a few of them before, they looked fine in the magazine and got glowing reviews but when I went there they looked plain, dull and run down and had a very negative vibe about them.  Don't be afraid to start a working bee with members of your club to help spruce up anything that needs fixing and making it presentable for the general public.  First impressions last.

12) Obesity

I am in two minds about this.  One of the main things about naturism and nudism is not judging other people on account of their body shape and size.  I admit that I do have a few kilos around my stomach that I want to get rid of and have been trying diets and exercises which haven't brought me the results I've wanted (hmmmm Dario, you need a bit of self-discipline buddy!!).  Body acceptance can sometimes become too politically correct where some nudists go to the extent of looking as unpleasant as possible and then want respect.  The majority of society doesn't think that way, and never will.  People DO judge a book by its cover, and ALWAYS when it attempts to pick them up.  Naturism and nudism was after all originally about diet, exercise, health, calisthenics and athletics and was responsible for bringing the 'keep fit' culture to the Western World back in the 1920's.  Today it's lost its way a lot which is why I think mainstream society gives us such a hard time.  OTOH, some people are overweight due to disorders such as malnutrition or an overactive thyroid gland.

13) Extreme body modification or scarring

I remember a song ten years ago by a British band called Groove Armada called "If Everybody Looked The Same (We'd Get Tired Of Looking At Each Other)".  Great song title, and it is true.  I don't mind tattoos and body piercings, they make the body look more unique and interesting.  These days about 80% of women aged between 18 - 35 have navel piercings and/or tattoos.  It makes for good conversation pieces and getting to know someone's background.  Personally, I wouldn't get one because I don't want to be 80 years old with my upper arm decorated with a heart and arrow through it with the words "I Love My Mum" on it.  But at the end of the day, to each their own.

14) Guys getting erections and not concealing them

Erections do happen with guys who are both novices and inveterate nudists alike, it's a part of nature.  It is a different matter to parade around a nudist or clothing optional place with an erection like a peacock.  Go for a dip in the pool or wrap a towel around your waist if you get one till it subsides.

15) Kids urinating in the pools and spa

This is disgusting.  What nudist club owners ought to be doing is putting a dye into the water so that when anybody urinates in it, it goes a different colour so they know who's done it (though if you are a good swimmer you can get away from it fast!).  Use the bloody toilet if you feel the need to go!

Would like to hear other members' opinions on this.  :)
