NRC To Discuss Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant
Potential Restart at April 14 Public Meeting
NAPERVILLE, Ill.—The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold its first public meeting to discuss the
Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant Restart Panel’s licensing reviews and inspection activites pertaining to a potential restart of the Duane Arnold plant.
What: Hybrid public meeting and Q&A with NRC’s Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant Restart Panel on activities to assess the plant’s readiness to resume operation in a way that ensures public health and safety. Members of the panel will discuss the NRC’s review process and offer an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and make comments related to the presentation.
When: 5 p.m. Central time Open House
6-8 p.m. Central time Presentation and Q&A
Where: Cedar Rapids Public Library’s Whipple Auditorium 450 5th Avenue SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Note: Instructions for attending virtually or by phone can be found in the
meeting notice.
Duane Arnold permanently ceased operations in August 2020. In 2025, NextEra Energy Duane Arnold, the facility’s license holder, expressed interest in returning the plant to an operational status. The NRC created the Duane Arnold restart panel to guide staff efforts to review and inspect the plant, and determine if it could be safely returned to operation.

meeting is for the NRC staff to meet directly with individuals to discuss regulatory and
technical issues. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff or

not actively soliciting comments towards regulatory decisions at this meeting.

Comments: This meeting is hybrid (in person and virtual). The Open House will be held in person
only from 5:00 PM to 5:50 PM CT, as it does not lend itself to the hybrid format. Members
of the public, who are participating virtually can join the meeting at 6:00 PM CT. The
meeting facilitator will alternate between questions from in-person and remote attendees,
with priority given to in-person attendees. Due to the expected in-person participation, a
ticket system will be used to randomly select members of the public to pose questions
