FROM BOMBS
TO DATA CENTRES: THE
FACE OF NUCLEAR
COLONIALISM

Hi
everyone,
Thanks
SO much for signing up for
the From Greenham to
Nevada webinar last night.
We
were delighted that more
than 50 of you from all
around the world were able
to join live, to hear
directly from Ian Zabarte
and to forge connections
to help us continue
raising awareness and
pursue accountability for
UK nuclear colonialism, in
solidarity with the
Western Shoshone Nation.
This
email is a follow up to
send out the replay and
links & information
mentioned during the
event.
As
promised, and most
importantly, here’s a
link to the recording of
the full event including
some important context
setting from Jane
Gregory of the
Aldermaston Women's
Peace Camp, Ian's full
presentation and a final
brief word from me,
Vicki Lesley, about my
plans for a new short
documentary on this
vital and urgent topic.
If
you would like to donate
to support Ian's
critically important
monitoring and
awareness-raising
efforts, you can do so
via the Native Community
Action Council where
there's a button to
donate directly using
Paypal:
And
if you'd like to be kept
updated on the documentary
project as I start to get
that off the ground, you
can sign up to my
newsletter on Substack
(note - Substack offers a
paid subscription model
but you can just ignore
the paid options and click
on the Free option).
Finally,
I promised to round up
and share the many
excellent links &
recommendations from our
discussion and here they
are:
FILMS
First
of all, apologies for the
technical snafu that meant
people could hear but not
see the trailer for my
earlier feature
documentary on the
turbulent social &
political history of
nuclear energy, The
Atom: A Love Affair.
You can watch it online
here:
https://theatomfilm.com/trailer
And
here are several other
titles that were
recommended:
BOOKS
Linda
Pentz Gunter, of Beyond
Nuclear International, has
just published her
accessible, wide-ranging
handbook No
to Nuclear :
https://www.plutobooks.com/product/no-to-nuclear/
And
there's a brand new novel
set at Greenham Common - Fallout
by
Eleanor Anstruther.
Eleanor was on Radio 4's
Woman's Hour yesterday
talking about the book -
there's a replay on BBC
Sounds. She's said she
believes her book is the
first fictional account of
Greenham but apparently
there are a couple of
novels about Greenham from
the 80s & 90s and a
possible Netflix drama in
production - I am going to
investigate further!
Also
recommended was
Atomic Farmgirl,
a 2003 coming of age story
set against the backdrop
of the Hanford nuclear
site in rural Washington:

With
grateful thanks again for
your time and interest.
Now let's get to work!
PS
sorry it took a little
while to get this out -
the recording was a big
file and took a LONG time
to upload!
