On
February 5th, the NewStart Agreement expires, ending a 1500
warhead deployment cap between the US and Russia
Countdown to the End of New Start Treaty
On February 5th, 2026,
the NewStart Treaty will
expire. NewStart has
limited the number of
deployed nuclear weapons
between the United States
and Russia to 1500 each. There
are no active
negotiations to keep
these limits in place
despite Russian
attempts. It's time
to take action by
demanding leaders support
new arms control. In
23 days, there will be
no legal limits on the
deployment of nuclear
weapons in the world.
Last week,
Northwest Against Nuclear
Weapons rolled out four
billboards across Washington
State warning of the
expiration and urging the
public to take action.
Supporters and concerned
citizens are encouraged to
visitnwanw.org/newstart
to learn how they can get
involved and save
common-sense arms control.
