I am reaching out to let you know about our recent April release, My Deepest Desire, as we believe the subjects and topics covered by the book greatly align with your organization’s mission. The royalties from the book are also being donated to a great organization for a meaningful cause.
My Deepest Desire, by atomic bomb survivor Tamiki Hara, is based on his story first published in Japan in 1951. A short yet grippingly moving meditation on the desire to live a different, fuller life, free from pain, isolation, and the intrusively haunting experience of tragedy, it is a demonstration of how dreams, memories, and traumatic despair intertwine in a person’s psyche. The work is newly translated by anthropologist Liza Dalby and accompanied throughout by full page ink drawings of artist Sandy Walker.
Since the book’s release, Sandy Walker has been featured in a United Nations news article discussing the power of art in creating change and his process of translating Tamiki Hara’s poetry into images. He was also invited to participate in a United Nations interview and a Meet the Author Event at the United Nations Bookshop, where he shared insights into the book and its themes with an international audience, and will be featured on Kyodo News this summer.
All royalties from the book will be donated to Western States Legal Foundation, a nonprofit, public interest organization founded in 1982 for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
We would be grateful for any help you can provide in getting the word out about this book and bringing awareness to the issues it raises. A simple mention of the book’s upcoming release in your newsletter or social media, along with an emphasis on the donated royalties, would be immensely helpful. We will, of course, boost these mentions and expose your organization to our own audience. We would also be glad to hear any other ideas you have in mind.
I have attached a media release and digital galley for your review and am happy to discuss further opportunities for collaboration.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Best,
Emily Egna
