and Crew are Ready!
Summer
2026 Voyage
Significant
Weather Delays Are
Occurring Right Now

Dear
Friends of the Golden
Rule Peace
Boat,
The
VFP Golden Rule
Committee plans to
bring the Golden
Rule to 12
ports-of-call this
summer. However,
weather on the Pacific
coast has been wild
this season. After
arriving in Fort
Bragg, we are waiting
for a huge, strong
storm to let up a bit
before proceeding
south.
An
optimistic schedule is
set out below - note
that the order of
stops and dates for
San Diego, Ensenada,
and Oceanside all
depend on when the
storm breaks. And the
rest of the schedule
may also shift and a
stop or two canceled -
stay tuned on our
website and eNews,
which will be posted
as soon as we
successfully leave
Fort Bragg.
Please see vfpgoldenruleproject.org
for the latest schedule.

the Golden Rule with our Tracker.

We look forward to presentations, peace
picnics, concerts,
film screenings, city
council resolutions,
press conferences,
Peace Flotillas, "open
boat" tours, and
taking people sailing!
If
you live in or near
any of these coastal
cities, we encourage
you to help organize
events and
publicity. If you will
be visiting the
California coast this
summer, please plan to
join us.

Thank you, volunteers for spending months
preparing the Golden Rule for the upcoming voyage!
Our
skipper, Steve Buck, led
the effort. Tamar,
Skylar, Isaac, Michelle,
Mary Ann, Richard, Ben
and many others
volunteered.
Thank
you, Leroy Zerlang for
the use of your
boatyard, crane, and
staff! It takes a whole
community to keep this
boat afloat.

Remember the four
leather chafe protectors
around the main mast?
Well, under them, where
the copper roofing nails
penetrated the mast,
some rot was starting.
It took a lot of
effort to remove over
400 nails from the mast,
then drill and plug the
holes before painting
the mast - phew! Thank
you Skylar, for going up
the mast for this
important work!

Transit from Eureka to Fort
Bragg - we're on our
way!
|
|
|
|
|
Tamar
Elias, Skipper Steve
Buck and Isaac Buck left
Eureka the evening of
June 25 and arrived the
following morning in
Fort Bragg. The weather
window was short and
they were just ahead of
the big storm.
We
will wait out the 30
knot winds here, then
continue south.

the pictures on
the website post.

We
look forward to
reconnecting with old
friends, raising our
sails for nuclear
abolition, and welcoming
new supporters who feel
called to this journey
for peace.

Help us keep the boat
afloat!
|
|
|
The
historic wooden ketch,
which famously
attempted to stop U.S.
nuclear testing in the
Marshall Islands in
1958, continues
to raise awareness of
the growing danger of
nuclear weapons and
war, while embracing
the entire Veterans
For Peace program of Peace
at Home and Peace
Abroad. We
will be networking
with immigrant rights
and pro-Palestine
activists, while
lifting up local
struggles for peace,
democracy,
environmental justice
and respect for the
sovereignty of all
nations.
We
keep this work going
with your help - for
maintenance, crew
support, docks and
diesel. Thank you for
your continuing
support!

Article by a long-time
supporter - Hope for
Peace!

by
Marilyn P. Jones
I
first learned about
The Golden Rule as a
Boat and that boat was
being built in
Humboldt County on a
beach. So, with us in
tow, we were taken off
to learn about this
boat. This was no
small thing or work
project here. I got a
tour outside and
inside of this
beautiful and not yet
finished sailing ship.
The children with us
were also in a sort of
awe for this ship for
the future use of the
local Veterans for
Peace.
Over
the years, I thought
about this project and
not too long ago read
a story in the S.F.
Chronicle. The Golden
Rule ship had a rough
trip back from
Hawaii.
My
memories have erupted
since these news
stories appeared. The
memories go much
further back in time.
--That
Shattering memory--
My
mother, brother and I
were having a
wonderful few days at
beautiful Silver Lake
here in the
Sierra-Nevada
Mountains of
California. I was
about 5 years old and
my brother was about
7. Mom had just come
back from a short walk
and visit to Kay's
Cafe to find either a
newspaper or listen to
the radio.
"Good
news," she said. "We
dropped a big bomb on
Japan today and the
war will be over
soon." It was August
6th or 9th of 1945. In
my 5 year old mind
this just seemed to be
some news that we did
not understand but
might possibly
understand some day.
Now,
as I write this, I
still find myself with
unstoppable tears
running down my face.
I am now 85 and still
cannot stop realizing
that the human race
could almost be
completely destroyed
so easily.
I
have no answers. I
also have no complete
understanding of human
beings. I can only
hope for some kind of
peace among all
people. Somehow, we
must find a way to
remove the madness.
