ICE’s Internal Watchdog Is Now Investigating Online Critics

  • CE's Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is increasingly investigating civilians over alleged online "doxing." Court filings show 131 investigations into alleged doxing and threats against ICE employees between January 2025 and March 2026, with few resulting in criminal charges.
  • ICE has used administrative subpoenas to identify anonymous online critics, though at least one was withdrawn after First Amendment challenges. Civil liberties advocates argue the agency is labeling lawful activities, such as photographing officers in public, as "doxing."
  • Meanwhile, detention facility inspections fell from 192 (2023) to 160 (2024) to 102 (2025), suggesting a shift in agency priorities.
