Hi,
Sixty-three
years ago, on October 28,
1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis
ended. The world breathed a
big sigh of relief as the
United States and Soviet Union
stepped back from the nuclear
brink.
Fast forward to today – New
START, the last remaining
treaty limiting U.S. and
Russian nuclear arsenals, is
set to expire in exactly 100
days.
The world survived the Cuban
Missile Crisis because of
leadership — a few people
making good decisions and
choosing diplomacy over war
and confrontation.
We once again need
such leadership.
Will you take two minutes to
urge your senators to
co-sponsor S.
Res. 323, the
congressional “Back from the
Brink” resolution?
|
Introduced
in July by five U.S.
Senators (Markey D-MA,
Merkley D-OR, Welch D-VT,
Sanders I-VT, and Van Hollen
D-MD), S. Res. 323
articulates a comprehensive
agenda to prevent nuclear
war, halt and reverse the
nuclear arms race, and
pursue a world free of
nuclear weapons.
Why Congress/S. Res.
323? Because we
won’t make progress until we
have many more members of
Congress showing real
leadership and speaking out
— leaders who understand
that nuclear weapons don't
keep us safe, and instead
pose the most immediate
threat to humanity.
Urge your two U.S. Senators
to cosponsor S. Res. 323.
Tell them we must act now to
create a safer world without
nuclear weapons — before New
START expires.
Best,
Back from the Brink Outreach
