OREPA submitted comments on the Draft PPP PEIS this afternoon. i am attaching a pdf version; you can read/download them on our web site here.

these comments are like none i have written in nearly 40 years of NEPA participation. the difference is a reflection of my understanding, arising from the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons, that we can not speak of nuclear weapons without directly addressing the humanitarian impacts.

that understanding not only informs the content, it also informs the context — i am writing as one human being to another.

will it make a difference? i am far too cynical to imagine it might. but there is value in establishing a record.

Your comments are inspired. Any human being who reads them will immediately stop all activity that could possibly lead to the production of nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, the key players are not human beings. They are humanoid cogs in a machine. They are carefully fitted with the institutional blinders you mention, which keep them from responding as fellow Earthlings. Their livelihoods depend on not understanding that war-culture competition on a planet begging for peaceful cooperation is self-destructive on every level. 

On this, the 250th birthday of our great nation, I'm so sorry to say our nation must be destroyed. There is no other way to influence the machine and the cogs who turn it. And, to prevent the apocalypse you describe, it must be destroyed from within. We are, indeed, lucky to have Convicted Felon President Donald Trump so fully engaged in said destruction, but we can all help by taking our money out of stocks, bonds, speculative real estate, and banks, then by not paying taxes and by not working and by growing our own food and generally buying as little of everything as possible. It’s a shame it’s come to this in only 250 years, but evolution is hard.

In any case and regardless of outcome, thank you for being so accurately, persuasively, and eloquently on the case,
