Dear Friend,
Late Wednesday evening,
President Trump issued a
vague social
media post, littered
with factual inaccuracies,
saying he has “instructed
the Department of War to
start testing our Nuclear
Weapons [...].”
At this moment, there’s
a lot we don’t know.
We think he means the
resumption of underground
explosive nuclear weapons
testing — something the U.S.
nor any other nuclear
weapons state, except North
Korea, has done for over
three decades.
But there’s a lot we do
know. This is a very
dangerous, unnecessary, and
horrible idea. If the U.S.
starts to conduct explosive
tests, Russia, China, and
other countries will likely
follow — making everyone in
the world less safe and
further fueling a global
nuclear arms race. And
people and communities will
again be at risk of having
their land, air, and water
poisoned by deadly
radioactive materials.
We also know this. We
can take this moment to
raise our voices and get our
elected leaders to take
action on advancing nuclear
disarmament and enacting
common-sense policies to
halt the nuclear arms race
and prevent nuclear war.
👉 Here are 3 things you
can do right now that take
10 minutes or less:
1. Use our
one-click actions for H.
Res. 317
and S.
Res. 323
to email your
representative and
senators, urging them to
co-sponsor our
congressional resolutions.
These two resolutions lay
out a comprehensive set of
policies to pursue nuclear
disarmament and prevent
nuclear war, including a
call not to resume nuclear
testing and to support
impacted communities.
2. Call your
member of Congress via the
Capitol switchboard
(202-224-3121). If
you’ve already taken the
one-click actions, phone
calls can leave an even
stronger impression. When
you call the switchboard, an
operator can direct your
call to the specific office
of a representative or
senator you wish to reach. Use
our talking points to
make an effective case for
why your member of Congress
should cosponsor H. Res. 317
or S. Res. 323.
3. Amplify
BftB’s messages on social
media. Share our
latest post responding to
President Trump’s statements
on Bluesky,
Instagram,
and Facebook
to help amplify our message
and counter misinformation.
Best,
Back from the Brink
