security leader who

Secretary of the Army,
joined NTI as its new
President and Chief
Executive Officer on
Monday.
A national security
leader with more than
30 years of experience

In a new post for NTI’s Risky Business
blog, NTI
Senior Director Ross
Matzkin-Bridger
writes that nuclear
fuel reprocessing is
“a technology that
has failed every
promise it has
made.” He writes
that each attempt to
revive reprocessing
ends the same way –
“billions of dollars
down the drain,
technical failures
abound, and security
risks increase. At a
time when the world
needs clean energy
fast, reprocessing
would be no more
than a costly
distraction.” His
blog post was highlighted in the Exchange Monitor, and
Matzkin-Bridger also
spoke with South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency about the challenges.

NTI | bio is excited to announce Shreyash Borkar,
Sriram Kumar and
Kaitlyn Connors as
the winners of the
2025 Next Generation
for Biosecurity
Competition! This
year’s challenge
called for
innovative papers on
how to define
“biological weapons”
in today’s ever
evolving biothreat
landscape. In their
winning paper, the
authors argue that
the Biological
Weapons Convention
must evolve to
address emerging
threats that target
not only living
organisms, but also
critical
infrastructure and
digital systems and
propose policy
recommendations to
close oversight
gaps. Learn more
about the
competition and read
