I have a sketch with text on my part. I am manually typing in the part numbers in the sketch of each part so that I can see the part numbers while I'm working on the model. Is there a way to get the part number from the iProperties of the part/assembly to populate the text in the sketch? As it stands now, it seems like I can only bring parameters into the sketch text but not iProperties.
To create a User Parameter made with the value found in the iProperty. Then insert the User Parameter in your text. You'll just need to get the iProp value like this below, and set some trigger (or manual) to run the iLogic:
I'm putting together a library of parts (busbars) which connect together to make a run. For this, I'm using Factory Design Utility. In order to aid assembly on site, I'm looking to assign unique element numbers on a drawing so that engineers can easily be told which part they need to use next (as these labels will be attached to each physical part).
It sounds not that easy to do since assembly structure is more like free style which can be reorder easily. As you said, the Sequential number follow the placement order for each component, then I'd suggest to involve iLogic or Inventor API to go though each component and add a new customized property in each component.
Thanks for the reply Xun, I thought about iLogic and assigning a custom field (then referencing this in a bubble), however, I'm conscious that making changes on the parts level has the potential to cause issues if I reuse the components in another assy + drawing.
In the past suggestions have been made to use ilogic to reference/pull the assembly occurrence for each one busbar:1, busbar:2 as each occurrence name is different in that assembly. Thats not something thats done at the part level but just pulled into the drawing..
Out of curiosity how does one know which is which in the field if they are identical parts/part numbers? Or do they not care? Or is this just for documentation purposes to reference one or the other.. If so what about simply showing a leader to each one and saying "see note #1" for busbar:1 and "see note #2" for busbar:2
I think maybe I need to investigate the use of the assembly occurrence as the way forward. The real life bars will have this identifier etched into them, allowing an on site engineer to simply pick up the next item on the run, and place it in accordance with the drawing.
Every time I try to give them separate numbers all 3 of the parts balloons change at the same time and i can't seem to figure out why. I never linked them and can't see why or how they could be linked. The parts are saved under different names and each is an individual part.
Hi! I can think of a few logical reason to the behavior. 1) The parts have the same part number. 2) The parts belong to an inseparable subassembly. 3) The parts belong to a subassembly and the partslist and the balloons are based from the structured BOM view.
After reading your comment I see i forgot to mention that these parts are not in a sub assembly so we can rule out 2 and 3. Your nr. 1 reason might be the cause would you mind explaining because at the moment i don't understand.
I don't know exactly what you mean the bill of materials is default.Its default in the way that i didn't touch any parts etc. I only changed the numbers to make them count up counter clock wise and then sort the bom again on numbers.
There are 2 issues that may be related. Both issues started in early June, 2020, and affect hundreds of files of different types from multiple users. We are using Inventor Professional 2020.2 and Vault Workgroup 2020
6. Check out that file, and I get the error below. If I click YES, 02 becomes 01 to match the incorrect values in Vault. It does not tell me the rev number has changed. If I click NO, my local copy stays at 02, and Vault still stays at 01, incorrectly.
Issue #2: Rev Number (as well as Date Created) iProperty is completely missing.
Some files are entirely missing the Rev Number iproperty. Some files are missing the Date Created iproperty. Usually a file missing one is missing the other too. When checking out the file, I get the same error as above, but no Rev Number is ever saved to Vault. The picture below shows the user defined iProperties as viewed in Vault's side bar. The group of columns on the left are from an unaffected part that still has a Rev Number. The columns on the right are missing Rev Number entirely.
You need to check your property mapping to make sure that it set to bi-directional and make sure that the System Property "Revision" is not mapped to the same iProperty (if you are using Vault Professional).
We began having this error the day we switched to using Vault Workgroup 2020 (build 25.0.66.0), which we are still using today. Vault's primary function is to save our data. As such, I've never considered that Vault would rename a filename, change a creation date, edit a rev number, remove an iproperty, or modify the data within a file in any other way. Are you saying that this is not the case? Is your suggested solution only applicable to Vault Professional?
I did eventually find that setting you mentioned in Vault Workgroup by selecting TOOLS, ADMINISTRATION, VAULT SETTINGS, the BEHAVIORS tab, and clicking PROPERTIES. From there I see a list of properties, so I'm guessing that I select REV NUMBER, select EDIT, and select the MAPPING tab. When I navigated there, I see that the mapping is already bi-directional and create is YES for Inventor. I don't see the word "category" anywhere. What does "the category that the file is assigned to" mean?
I see that you are still managing revisions manually instead of leveraging the ability of Vault Workgroup to manage revisions automatically. I guess you are switching from Vault Basic to Vault Workgroup recently.
Setting up Vault can be very complicated the first few times you start digging into things. I did a class a few years ago, pretty basic, about Vault Configuration. We attempted to at least show and define some of these concepts and the tools that go with them. No way to cover all of the possible permutations of Vault setup, because they vary from company to company. But, take a look, and maybe some of the terminology and menus will start to lead you where you want to go. Or maybe, at least, give you an idea of what other questions you may want to ask.
Our problem began the day we switched from Vault Basic to Vault Workgroup because Vault Workgroup had different default settings for the Rev Number and Date File Created properties than for the other commonly used properties like Title and Part Number. We assumed that an upgrade from Vault Basic to Vault Workgroup would mean that we had at least the same functionality as we did with Vault Basic by default, but this was not the case, and it is irresponsible of Autodesk to have such defaults. We'll now have to go through and correct months of documentation. That said, it's easy to fix...
That's it. Vault no longer changes the REV NUMBER on its own, so set it to whatever you want and check it in and Vault Workgroup will work just like Vault Basic did. For any files missing these properties, the properties will show up the next time you check in the file.

One huge problem I have with ReCap is that it doesn't work with 4K monitors. The menus and icons are the size of bacteria. I have to use a magnifying glass to read anything on my 55" external monitor. Makes it hard to find things.

The RCP Point Cloud is only used to create a Surface. Then it gets turned off.

This rule catches errors when the title iproperty is empty, and it also adds an instance number with a colon, so that no errors occur from trying to name multiple occurrences of the same part the same thing.
I have searched the web and this forum for help with my line number question but still can't find a solution. The problem is a customers line number format includes insulation, insulation thickness, and tracing type. Works great when the line has insulation but when it doesn't a "?" shows up like this XX-XX-XX-XX-?-?-?. I tried inserting "\U+00A0" in the selection list but it shows as XX-XX-XX-XX-\U+00A0-\U+00A0-\U+00A0 in the line number when ISOs are dropped and in tag line in the property window. If anybody has a solution to this please let me know.
