I think he was trying to get ideas for the new WP admin area.

The nicest admin area that I've seen is from ExpressionEngine.

It's clean and is grouped according to task. Menus on the top so the
whole screen can be used for entering your post, working on templates,
etc. I always liked the way Rick did pMachine, just couldn't understand
it back then. In many ways pMachine and EE are very similar to Nucleus,
wonder if Rick got iadeas from Wouter ;)

Yes, the admin menu is very comfortable and easy to use. Sometimes
easier than nucleus.
But it's totally messed up with firefox, but that won't be our problem ;)

Maybe it's time to renew the nucleus interface?

I've been thinking about that too, Jan.
Actually, I did write something about it:

Just recently I started on some sketches:

All idea's are welcome, so let me know what you think.

Regards,

Roel :-)

Probably, a greasemonkey user script can be used to prototype the interface ? Once everyone is in agreement and the look is accepted, we can do the same in the core ..

Roel, I agree with you that the usability issues in nucleus has to be better.
Well, I like the look and feel of "Expression Engine", especially the "regsiter" style: The menu, which is selected, is inverted to the rest. The GUI looks very intuitive to me and is easy to use for new users.

Even your attempt to make some features for some user levels invisible looks very good to me. Most users don't really need access to all areas, so most features just confuse the users.

And even the most mixed up part, even by myself: Templates and Skins. I know, they have to be seperated, but it took me 2 skins to understand the basiscs of this system and even now I have sometimes problems to recall on first try where I have to change the settings. This always ends up in "trial and error"...

I would take the Expression Engine layout as a master. Your sketches look much familiar to it, so that it could be adapted without running into any copyright I think?

Anyway I think we're on the right way.

J
