ThePACT Theatre Company is pleased to announce a new partnership with the City of Mobile Parks and Recreation for Theatre Under the Stars! Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, through Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Langan Park. Shows run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. The inaugural production is none other than Disney's Tarzan: The Musical. This community event will include food trucks, nonprofit organizations, local vendors, local organizations and fun activities for adults and kids alike! This Musical Theatre Day will be a free educational event and will provide each participant with a free ticket to the show that night! For more information, please visit: thepactmobile.com/tarzan/

The half-dead American raved of an unknown city...of women warriors ruled by a malignant wizard...of a great diamond, the Gonfal, with strange hypnotic power...of a long-lost English nobleman...of the savage queen who had betrayed her duty and helped him to escape. Tarzan puts little faith into Stanley Wood's story-until he sees the power of the Gonfal draw the American in spite of himself back into the clutches of the Amazons of Kaji. Then it is that the ape-man becomes once more the implacable hunter-for though he cares nothing for diamonds or lost civilizations, no one may be allowed to harm a man the Lord of the Jungle has taken under his protection.

For the first time ever, the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library presents the complete literary works of the Master of Adventure in uniform hardcover editions. Published by the company founded by Mr. Burroughs in 1923, each volume of the Authorized Library is packed with extras and rarities not to be found in any other edition. From cover art and frontispieces by legendary artist Joe Jusko to forewords and afterwords by today's authorities and luminaries to a treasure trove of bonus materials mined from the company's extensive archives in Tarzana, California, the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library will take you on a journey of wonder and imagination you will never forget.

Walking in, I entered a darkened, green-lit jungle, with twittering birds, occasional drums, and a green canopy draped high overhead; a large platform dressed with tree trunks, moss, and leaves; and a very subtle breath of theatrical fog. Plus a few vines, which later serve the function you'd expect. Director Tubbs has put together yet another spectacular set.

He's yet another actor with a stunning voice, and I'm gratified that he sang mostly straight tone with minimal vibrato. In truth, all the singers here provide wonderful sound, with vocal styles driven by character instead of grandstanding, but very strong technique. For example, during the percussive Act II opener (befitting drummer/composer Collins), Mendez treats us to skillful and more pleasing scat than found in any jungle. At the end of one duet, Tarzan and Jane astounded me with their long-held tandem last notes.

Chris is elated to be joining his fellow castmates in bringing this beloved story to life in our jungle. A biomedical engineer by trade, Chris has performed professionally in Greenville, SC during his studies at Clemson University. In Jacksonville, you may have seen him in (much less acrobatic) shows like Murder Ballad, Bonnie & Clyde, The Toxic Avenger, Violet, and The Wild Party. Much love to his incredible wife Joanna and baby Emerson. Thank you for letting Dad play and be silly with others.

Abigail Douglas is thrilled to be back on the stage at Players by the Sea! She is an incoming sophomore at the Hartt School, getting her BFA degree in Musical Theatre. You could have seen her around town at the Alhambra in Seussical, Sound of Music, and Elf, at FSCJ in Cinderella, or here at PBTS in Ruthless! Her favorite credits include Winnie Foster in Tuck Everlasting and Ensemble in Rock of Ages in Michigan last summer. This has been the most wonderful experience to be able to perform again and would like to thank the entire production team for making this show possible.

Jeremy is thrilled to return to the musical theatre stage for the first time since high school, reigniting a passion that has been simmering for years. Prior to Tarzan, Jeremy dedicated five years to serving in the Navy, a journey that broadened his horizons and deepened his appreciation for teamwork and discipline. Now, as he steps back into the spotlight, Jeremy brings a wealth of life experience and a renewed enthusiasm for the art of storytelling. He is excited to share this performance as Kerchak with you and hopes it will be as inspiring for you as it is for him.

Elijah Simms, 18, has been acting and singing since he was young and has always had a love for musical theatre. Elijah is overjoyed to be performing in Tarzan: The Musical. You may have seen him in: Chicago (Douglas Anderson) West Side Story and The Addams Family (Players by the Sea) and as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid (Saltwater Performing Arts Center), and as Papa Ge Once on This Island (Douglas Anderson).

Elijah Lawless is elated to have the opportunity to play Young Tarzan in his first production at PBTS. He has been featured in theatre shows, movies, commercials and modeling since he was 7 days old, but this is his first named role. He thanks Mike, the whole team, and all of his cast mates for being so supportive and allowing him to work alongside them to tell this beautiful story. His hope is that one day someone writes a musical that features a Nerf War, so he can combine his two favorite things.

Gray Jensen is in the ensemble and will be attending Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in the fall as a freshman focusing on performance theater. This is his debut show at Players by the Sea. Previous performances at Fletcher Middle School include High School Musical and Once Upon a Mattress in which he played a principal role. In addition to theater, Gray enjoys playing the piano and doing aerial silks.

Abby is an aspiring actress whose dream is to make it on Broadway! In her free time she enjoys playing beach volleyball, coaching youth softball, and working with the young children at her church. She will be joining Douglas Anderson School of the Arts next year and is excited to continue working on her performance there. She hopes you enjoy the show and cannot wait to be part of more!
