I see there hasn't been much activity in this group for a couple of years, so if there is another email list somewhere for AREDN Mesh Networking in NTX, please let me know.

I have a tunneling server now running at my QTH in Grapevine, which is connected into the KE5GDB node in Denton and then to the DCARA and W4FC nodes.  Also I have a node in Galveston at my beach house, and plan to put another tunnel client node in a couple of locations.

The W5HRC Hurst club is working to deploy nodes in Mid Cities, which sometimes see the DCARA nodes when conditions are right... usually early in the mornings.  So we simply need a small number of new nodes to bridge that gap, then all of Mid Cities should be tied into DCARA, NETARC, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing the network grow.  I started working on this project 3-4 years ago and it has taken some time to take shape, so I am glad to see it finally coming together.

Jason,

I noticed that too.

I know people are doing stuff on AREDN, maybe just not posting here?

Maybe they just dislike google groups.

I didn't know you had a tunnel server going! I need to get with you offline about a tunnel to my house. I am just too far out to get to anybody OTA.

Stuff is definitely being done; we're just not talking about it as much.

The big news right now (aside from Jason finally getting on the network) is getting the Rosston West sector online.

It's a Rocket M2 with a 120° sector pointed due west.

Should I be able to see that from the tower at w5fkn?

Jay

I just got the tunnel server setup a few days ago.  You're welcome to connect to me, shoot me a text msg.

The new Rosston West sector points directly over my deer lease in Forestburg, so I am going to work on deploying a node there to connect it into the network.  My hope is to eventually have an IP cam at the location, but as I understand it now, you have to have an ethernet connection into an ISP for the IP cam to work.  Apparently there is a proposal into one of the nightly build projects to enable it over WiFi, but that isn't active yet.

Jay- Yes. With a wet string.

Jason- We can get an IP camera on the mesh now. I can help you get it configured. You won't be able to access it from the internet, but from the mesh you'll be able to see it.

My main desire was to get it to work over tunneling, which requires internet,  but I don't really want it streamed over the open internet. I spoke to the AREDN gurus about this and they said it wasn't possible yet, unless you're connected via ethernet to an ISP modem.

Also everyone should go upload their data to AREDN with the button at the bottom-right of this screenshot.  Your node must have internet access.  I notice that Rosston isn't on the map, and I know it has internet

Metrocrest ARS (MARS) put up three 120 deg sectors and three M2 rockets on top of Baylor Scott White Medical Center in Carrollton a few months ago. While it's one of the highest buildings around and highest buildings in Carrollton it's not on a hill top so it isn't all that high. But it is what it is.

We're trying to build out a Carrollton and Farmers Branch mesh.

I'm pretty sure that we registered one of them with the AREDN map but I'll have to go back and see.

Coverage to the east isn't all that good because that node is at the roofline of the elevator penthouse on the west side of the building and is therefore subject to a considerable building shadow. An initiative for this year will be to secure permission to move it to the east side of the building and get better coverage.

The nodes all operate under KB5A, the club call sign.

If you guys point West or North, I wonder if you wouldn't be able to see the Colony Nodes.  I am seeing some K5LRK nodes in my Remote Nodes list.  They are reaching to Denton and to the N5ERS tower in Grapevine.

There are lots of nodes missing from the map.  So everyone go update your stuff, if you can.  It'll help us fill in gaps where nodes don't actually exist.

How long does it take for the map to update?

I just added 1 grapevine node 2 hours ago and it hasn't shown up yet.
