Good morning, NTX AREDN.

Yesterday at Ham-Com 2019, after lunch, I conducted an informal combination AREDN and FSQ portable kit demo (see attached image).  Using my NTX AREDN v1.1 deployment kit, I had a high-quality link to Tim Bratton’s k5ra-rk2o-parker77 node.  Similarly, using my NTX FSQ backpack-portable FLDIGI kit and its ancient 2 meter monoband ICOM IC-02AT HT (5 watts), I was easily able to interoperate with the Richardson RACES (kg5ypa/eoc) FSQ ’node’ and copy several other stations in Richardson and Plano. There were quite a few ‘walk-ups” with lots of interest, excellent Q&A, and general ham radio-related discussion.  Let’s think about giving a formal presentation and demonstration at next year’s Ham-Com.

73,

Paul -- KA5TYW

PS — Zoom in on the tip of the dualband antenna; people were asking if I was using some kind of capacitance hat. What they were seeing was a giant dragon fly!
