AREDN team,

Saturday I conducted a site test at Creek Hollow Park – NO CONNECTION!

I also conducted a site test at Point North Park – SUCCESS!

This was my setup at Creek Hollow Park:

Radio: Ubiquity Bullet M2 (km5vz-bu2o-Ratatosk)

Antenna: TP-LINK-ANT2415D

support: Buddy Pole 16’ mast/tripod

Power: Ubiquity PoE connected to pavilion AC

Setup time: 1+ hour (Downgrade FW, install AREDN FW on Bullet)

Current Neighbors: km5vz-ar2o-Bifrost

Remote Nodes: N/A

All houses west of this park are 2 story with high peak roofs. To operate successfully from this park a mast height of at least 35’ will be required for line of sight above the roof line.

The km5vz-ar2o-Bifrost AirRouter (Not an HP unit) was on the picnic table attached to a Raspberry Pi. The Bullet was connected to my AspireOne Netbook.

To verify my mesh node configuration was correct, I relocated to Point North Park with this setup:

Radio: Ubiquity AirRouter

Antenna: Internal

Support: Picnic table bench

Power: Wall wart connected to pavilion AC

Current Neighbors: K5UTD-North & K5UTD-Southeast

Remote Nodes: K5UTD-Southwest & K5GDB-Nanostation

My next step is to get Mesh Chat installed and working on some Rpi’s and to setup VoIP with two GS HT701 ATA and analogue phones. The VoIP setup will NOT use a PBX, these ATA’s support direct IP dialing, which will allow voice communications over the mesh without a central server/proxy.

Hi, Bill.

Excellent report…and congratulations!  Experience is the best teacher, isn’t it?  Thanks for sharing.  Very cool.

We’re on the verge of standardizing our DC-only capability for portable node operations.  Portable DC power will allow us to expand our site testing…and our ability to provide rapid EMCOM and public service communications deployment.  This just keeps getting better all the time!

73,

Paul
