Hi all,

I'd like to pass on the following advertisement for the 2025 PAWS Virtual School on Number Theory which is aimed to be accessible to undergraduates with a modest background in proof-based mathematics. This year's topic is Mathematical cryptography and algorithms in number theory. Please share with students who you think may be interested.

On behalf of the organizers of the Arizona Winter School, I am writing to draw your attention to the upcoming 2025 Preliminary Arizona Winter School - Virtual School on Number Theory, and ask you to encourage students to apply to the program.

This year's topic will be “Mathematical cryptography and algorithms in number theory.” This online workshop for undergraduates and beginning graduate students is a companion to AWS 2026 program on “Computational aspects of arithmetic geometry and cryptography,” taught at a level accessible to undergraduates with a modest background in proof-based mathematics.

We hope to expose enthusiastic students to new and exciting mathematics. The program also aims to prepare and encourage them to pursue further studies in this and related areas.

We especially hope to attract and actively recruit students from underrepresented minority groups who might not necessarily consider specializing in number theory.

We have continued to incorporate valuable feedback we have received from you all as the program evolves, and we hope you will continue to help us spread the word!

The 9-week online event will feature two speakers giving 5 lectures each, and will center around facilitated small group interactions and problem solving. Each lecture series will take place from September 22nd — November 21st, 2025 on the following topics:

Sabrina Kunzweiler (Bordeaux): "Introduction to mathematical cryptography"
Juanita Duque-Rosero (Boston University): "Analysis and implementation of algorithms in number theory”

For further information about PAWS 2025, and to apply for the school, please visit:

PAWS 2025

I hope that you will help us encourage interested students to apply to the program. And if they have any questions, they should contact us at a...@swcmath.org

Warm Regards,

Padma Srinivasan
(on behalf of the PAWS 2025 organizers: Renee Bell and Brandon Levin)
