SCCM collection question

If I have a collection that is based on direct membership, then I add a smaller collection to that, as an exclusion, does the sub-collection overrule the direct membership? I need to exclude a few servers from tonight’s patching/reboots, but don’t want to actually remove them from the collection, because I’ll probably forget to re-add them…

Exclude rules [are supposed to] take precedence over include rules for collections.
