I’m trying to deploy an application, which runs an .msi file, with a transforms.  I’ve deployed it to 20 machines.  16 are fine, and 4 give me this 1603, fatal error.  I know 1603 is a very generic error code.  I’ve found a couple of articles about it, but going through the troubleshooting, I am not able to find what’s actually happening.  The appenforce.log is not helpful. It shows that it is about to run the command, then 2 seconds later, pops the error.

Anyone have other spots to look for answers?

Is there an MSI*.log in c:\windows\temp with the right timestamp?

Otherwise you may need to amend your command line for the deployment to include a logfile and see what that tells you.

++ on Logging, it will display more of why the MSI is failing

Past experience, that error code most of the time comes down to WMI issues. I don't work on SCCM anymore but over the years I built a health script that did all of rebuild WMI, clear user crypto, refreshing GPO files, and reinstall the client. I'll try to find it.

There was, thanks for pointing to it.  So, it looks like all the ones that have failed are all the same version and build.  Apparently, the installer has a problem with it.  That log stated that a newer version was already installed, even though it is absolutely an older version.  I’m working on getting that build, so I can play around with the installer, and see if I can work around it.
