Compiled and installed packages:
rtorrent 0.8.0
libtorrent 0.12.0
xmlrpc-c 0.11.1

.rtorrent.rc:
scgi_port = localhost:5000

Log messages in rtorrent:
(14:07:25) XMLRPC initialized with 409 functions.
(14:07:25) The SCGI socket is bound to a specific network device yet
may still pose a security risk, consider using 'scgi_local'.

Now for the problem -
Do I need to setup Apache/lighttpd in order to use ntorrent? From what
I have seen I dont think it is necessary, I should just be able to
forward port 5000 to my Windows machine and connect to it using the
local connection method in ntorrent (using 0.5.0 beta).

I have tried using the above method to connect and It doesnt seem to
be working. ntorrent just sits there and says nothing when I press
connect.

I'm thinking maybe the rtorrent XMLRPC somehow isnt working because if
I run this command, nothing happens, the program just sits there and
does nothing:
xmlrpc localhost system.listMethods
I have to press Ctrl-C to exit the xmlrpc program.

Does someone know what the problem is?

Two questions pops to mind.
Are you using windows vista?
is "localhost" bound to 127.0.0.1?

And also, the ssh protocol works just like a local portforwarding, so
you dont have to make your own portforward.

First make sure that you can achieve a connection with "xmlrpc 127.0.0.1
system.listMethods", when this is successfull nTorrent should work
nicely. Alltough, windows vista has it's issues with portforwarding for
some reason.

Heh, thanks for the tip. Found my problem, firewall was blocking the
packets from the local loopback interface. Accidentally removed all my
firewall rules and when I re-added them I forgot to accept packets
from lo ;)
I am using Vista, but the SSH connection method seems to work OK.
Manually forwarding a port using Putty seems to have problems though.

Cheers.

Oh, interesting. i had the exact oposite results when i tried vista
once. SSH would not establish a connection but through putty worked
great. Dont know what to make of it really.... blame it on the vista :)
