Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. Can anyone recommend a reputable shop for a 66
Mustang C4 transmission rebuild. I'd like to go with a shop where
someone here has experienced good results at a resonable price. I
leave in Murphy (NE side of DFW) The Aamco guys that work on my 98
truck, don't seem up to speed on the vintage stuff, when I talked to
them about it. Also, I need to have the differential rebuilt.

I plan to carry these items to the shop and do the R&R myself, as the
car is not street drivable, yet.

Thanks!
SD

A-1 United Trans. in Garland is family owned and honest.  Ask for Mike.

SD,

I have a 64.5 and had my transmission completely rebuild and a new fly wheel done by U S Automotive Transmissions in Anna, TX..  I paid $660.  The owner works on old and new cars and has a couple of classics.

I had the C4 for a 65 convertible rebuilt at Ed's Transmissions in
Grand Prairie. I have had no problems with it since finishing the
restoration of the car back in April.

Sam,

What did you do about getting the C4 re-built?

I had my 41 year old, 148000 original C-4 done at Hackler
Transmissions in Carrollton. Been there since 1958. Ron H and I took
it out and took it to them. They did great work. 2 days turnaround.
I should have told them to not paint it. While picking it up, I
mentioned my 1999 F250 Super Duty. He was well aware that the trannys
on them are the weakest point, and proceeded to tell me about the
modifications they make to increase the life-expectancy. It was
interesting in that all the Super duty forums, web sites and such, all
say to do all the steps Hackler was telling me they would do, when
mine breaks.
