I did, and back then you had to buy your modem no choice, so i bought a 3com
cmx modem for £140.
Now since NTL have brought out free rental i got a £5 deduction from my bill
cause i owned the modem. Now, they said im not entitled to it and basically
to get stuffed. I said i had been loyal blah blah, since it was £50 a month
blah, and they still said tuff.
Now all i could respond with was well, if there is no price difference why
am i using my own modem, send me one of yours. Which of course they have
agreed to do, but to be honest i dont even want it. If someone else knows
anything about this charge and is willing to be used as a reference case!!!,
please give me a shout so i can sort these money grabbers.
Cheers
Jules

My case is a little different, but here goes...
When I first bought broadband from NTL I had the option of buying a decent
second-hand modem at a knock-down price, from a friend who was moving house.
The modem was one of NTL's recommended models, so no compatibility issues,
and all we had to do was get the modem MAC code transferred from his account
to mine. Simple, right?
Wrong.
What followed was a week of phone calls to NTL's then legendarily poor
Customer Service Department. Various excuses such as "the computers are
down, sorry" or "I am not authorised to do that" followed, and, on one
breathtaking occasion, after being on hold for nearly an hour and a half,
were asked by a young lady called Naomi what a cable modem was and what it
was for. After said week we basically gave up, and I had the cable fitted
and a modem delivered - and that's when the fun *really* started, but that's
another story...
If NTL had simply said they were not willing to let us transfer the modem
over because they would rather I paid £5 more a month for their service
(which has been on the whole very good) then I would have respected that,
even if I would have been left feeling conned. It makes me wonder if they
had a policy in place that ensured the majority of subscribers were forced
into taking one of their modems. Instead I met a wall of poor excuses,
outright lies and ignorance, and that is what frankly p***ed me off. The one
saving grace was that at least the phone calls were free...

I did. They're now trying to charge me for three months of services that
they didn't supply. I'm thinking about starting another ntlhell type of
website.
