Hi can anybody help with the following set-up problems?

Cable modem installed on a Ethernet card (os: 98se). I want to network this
comp to a laptop situated downstairs (os:2000pro) also fitted with a
Ethernet card. Both comps have usb support and I also have a Ethernet hub.
When I try to connect the cable modem through the hub it will not recognise
the comp at all. I know the comps will talk to each other because I have had
the network up and running (using network protocol netbui).

Also having trouble just trying to install the cable modem using usb, is
this because I have loaded NTL broadband software for the Ethernet
connection?
When I try to load the usb drivers in the comp will not browse for .inf
files.

Another problem is that when I try installing the modem onto the laptop (usb
port) it will keep coming up with a conflict with my Ethernet card.

Can anybody with this kind of set-up and working, post me some help and
knowledge of their Guru networking secrets!
It would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Corey
