Thepurpose of Slime Rancher is right there in the title - run a ranch full of slimes. However, unlike the traditional farm animals, slimes are much trickier to care for and contain. They can be very picky with what they eat, and their inherent bounciness makes it easy for them to escape if you don't prep properly.

The reason you're ranching slimes is for Plorts, valuable byproducts that slimes produce periodically. Different slimes produce different Plorts which have varying values, but you don't have to sacrifice all your space to each type of slime. You can instead combine them into Largo slimes that are able to produce multiple types of Plorts at once.

Alongside the basic Slimes that you can find out in the field, you can also encounter Largo Slimes. These are a combination of multiple slime types, appearing larger and having physical distinctions based on their types. In addition to being able to produce two types of plorts at once, they also adopt the behaviors of their source slimes allowing you to adjust their diets. You can make a largo simply by feeding a slime a plort different from its own. Here are the best options.

The Glass Desert is an interesting location to visit, and you're guaranteed to encounter Tangle and Dervish Slimes while you're there. Since they're both docile, it's quite easy to capture them and take them back to the ranch where you can turn them into a valuable Largo.

Their plorts are relatively valuable being worth 75 Newbucks each. In terms of characteristics, Tangles are meat-eaters while Dervishes are fruit-eaters, so turning them into a Largo will allow you to focus entirely on a fruit-based diet, specifically Prickle Pears.

Of all the areas you'll get to explore in Slime Rancher, the Moss Blanket is where you'll spend much of your time. It's one of the first areas you'll get access to, and it's quite calm and full of a variety of slimes. This includes the sweet Honey Slime and the intimidating-sounding Hunter Slime.

Since they're both docile and encountered early on, this is a Largo you can start making to get some quick plorts valued at 45 and 60 Newbucks. This will also allow you to make their diet fruit-based with their favorite food being Mint Mango.

There are a bunch of different Slimes that vastly differ in power and action, so it's best to be cautious around the more unusual ones. This applies to the spiky Crystal Slimes that can be found in the Indigo Quarry and the mysterious Quantum Slimes found in the Glass Desert and Ancient Ruins.

Though the Crystal Slime is harmful and Quantum Slimes can be difficult to manage, it's worth turning them into a Largo. Though their plorts have a good value of 60 Newbucks each, these slimes' combined weakness to water makes their hazards much easier to manage. They have an easy diet of both veggies and fruits.

You don't need to be a scientist to know that you shouldn't mix explosives, but that's a different story in Slime Rancher. The two Slimes of Rad and Boom have some very volatile qualities which you can encounter in various areas, but both can spawn in the Indigo Quarry and Wilds.

They're both harmful in terms of exploding and giving off radiation, but combining them can make them easier to keep in check. Their plorts share a value of 45 Newbucks, their Largo can subsist on veggies, and both of their harmful energies can be suppressed with water.

If Slime Rancher has a mascot, it's the Pink Slime. These happy blobs can be found all over alongside the grumpier Rock Slimes as distinguished by their spikes. Since these slimes can be found early on, it makes sense to combine them into a Largo to get a quick boost in plorts and Newbucks.

Though the Pink Slimes are quite friendly, they're not the only happy and harmless slimes you can encounter. The playful Tabby Slime which can be found all over and the night-only glowing Phosphor Slime are both cheerful in appearance and make for good Largo partners.

It's another combo that makes for a more manageable fruit-based diet with a favorite in Cuberries. Though their plorts are both worth 22 Newbucks each, the value of this combo is that it can be farmed early on for easy money.

Though the world of Slime Rancher may seem bright and colorful, there is also an element of danger that can be found in harmful and feral Slimes. The fiery Mosaic Slime and the aggressive Saber Slime are examples of such dangers lurking in areas like the Glass Desert and the Wilds respectively.

You should combine these two into a Largo slime to get plorts with values of 60 and 75 Newbucks. It also makes it so that the combo will have a favorite food in Silver Parsnips to keep them happy while water can be used to keep their fiery light in check.

For those that don't know, Slime Rancher is one of the most wholesome games out there. You play as Beatrix, a rancher on a far-off planet, spending their days corralling smiling Slimes and making your fortune on the Plort market.RELATED:Slime Rancher 2 Announced And Coming To Game PassSlime Rancher has won over so many players with its laid-back and addictive gameplay, and it's not hard to see why. In fact, Slime Rancher 2 is coming this year, too - so it is important to remember which Slimes helped players the most. This particular list is based on a few things: cuteness and appearance, Plort prices, and availability. Largos are not included here as they aren't singular Slimes, and Gold Slimes are also omitted due to the fact they are so rare.

Let's start with a classic: the Pink Slime. It is the first friend that players meet in the game, and is a bountiful option for farming. These bouncy boys are ideal for creating Largos with different Slime Plorts, but on their own, they are a great money-making option in the early game as they require no special features on a corral.

Next up is the jazzy-looking Crystal Slimes. They're essentially the fancy big brother to the Rock Slimes but can bring in much more of a profit. They are vegetarians and have a special love for Odd Onions. Crystal Slimes won't be available immediately, as they are in an area behind at least one locked door.

Beware though, as Cyrstal Slimes can be painful if they bounce into Beatrix. They create crystal protrusions where they bounce, which can also harm our dear rancher. These can be dispersed with water, though!

The concept for Quantum Slimes is so cool: they phase in and out of their physical form and zoom about the place with a sort of astral projection. They're so interesting as a design and concept.

Be warned, they can be an absolute pain to look after without the correct setup. The best way to keep these guys happy is to have a fully upgraded corral and plenty of Phase Lemons. Fill up an Auto-Feeder and keep it on medium-high frequency. If they're fed, they'll stay put, but if Quantums get hungry, they'll phase out of the corral and wander off.

The sweetest Slime by far is the Honey Slime. Found in the Moss Blanket area, they are regarded as uncommon. Their diet consists of fruit, specifically Mint Mangoes. Honey Slimes require no special treatment other than a load of fruit, so they are a cute and easy addition to any ranch.

Fun fact: Honey Plorts attract Slimes from further distances than others, so keep an eye on any others coming close, so there's no Tarrs spawning. Their Plorts go for a reasonable amount on the Market, as they are desirable for food production... yum!

Once players unlock Viktor Humphries' Workshop, they will have access to The Slimeulation - a fabrication of the Far, Far, Ranch containing the rare and mysterious Glitch Slime! Viktor created this area was created to predict and observe Slime's evolution and behaviors, among other things. Due to some funky code, Glitch Slimes were created (and a digital Tarr).

Though they cannot be ranched, the Glitch Slimes are still really cool and fun additions to the game. They are only available in the mini-game associated with the Slimeulation, which sees Beatrix have to figure out which objects/slimes are actually Glitches and hoover them all up.

Another unfortunately un-ranchable Slime is the Quicksilver. This time, the mini-game is accessible by unlocking Mochi's Manor, and playing the associated game: catch as many Quicksilvers by zapping them, and collecting the Plorts. Mochi will pay handsomely for these, as she can't be bothered to collect them herself.

Quicksilvers are super fast. They zip around the course, and will try their best to evade Beatrix - create a bottleneck in a thinner part of their path, and they're easy picking! It would be great to have these shiny dudes on the Ranch, but it's still fun to go see them in their natural habitat.

Finally, we get to the leafiest of the Slimes: the Tangle Slimes. These are later game Slimes as they are native to the Glass Desert, which can only be accessed by a certain Teleporter.

Tangles are on this list because they look great. They have a flower on their heads, and they use vines to catch their food - which is meat, by the way. Keep them well-fed with Hen Hens, and they will produce plenty of Plorts, which will earn a lot on the Market.

Look at this. How squishy. It's like a blue fried egg that is super shy. What is it? A Puddle Slime, aka the most adorable Slime in the game. They are so easy to look after and look so cute.

These little dollops of water live in a specially crafted pond - and don't require any feeding. Up to four can live in one pond before they get unhappy, and will really appreciate the rubber duck toy addition. And the best thing? They blush! When they're happy they get little rosy cheeks to let you know how well they're doing.

Mosaic Slime's Plorts are, along with Tangle Slimes, the most profitable (outside the elusive Gold Slime's Plorts). They can be quite easily ranched, once they've been found. They spawn in the Glass Desert once some Oases have been restored, and feed on veggies - specifically the Silver Parsnips.
