Hii,

I am curious about the current and future performance for NthCode on
Beagleboard. I have been trying both XBMC and moovida for beagleboard
but none has been that good.
I am really looking forward for an arm based media player! This is
very much the future I think.

1.Is the current version using gstreamer-ffmpeg? Is this optimized for
armv7 (with neon stuff) the same way the standalone ffmpeg? Then SDTV
wouldnt be a problem?

2. Is the plan to use TI DSP with DMAI or similar for audio and
video?

3. Is video renderig done using OpenGL? If so, do you have support for
streamed textures? I noticed that there is a gigantic performance
boost in using this.

Hi, Carl,

Yes, NthPlayer is compiled for ARMv7 on Beagle, which means you get
all the NEON optimizations. However, to get great performance on
OMAP3, we really need to use TI's DSP video decoders, which we haven't
done, yet. As things are now, we are only able to stream low-
resolution video. This is issue is definitely on our to-do list, but
it's a bit below some other things customers are asking us to
demonstrate at this point.

We looked briefly at using the OpenGL stack to accelerate our UI, but
it looked to only support 16bpp RGB graphics, so we haven't pursued it
further. Am I wrong about that?

I hope this answers your questions. And thanks for checking out
NthPlayer!

Regards,

Peter
