The title says it all - sort of.

client had Exchange 2016 installed on a 2012 R2 Domain Controller, which was also a file server. (facepalm)

Uninstalled Exchange, but these app pools hung around and are causing tons of errors in the event logs.

Can I just remove them from IIS?

If so, great...but now this has me wondering WHAT ELSE I might need to clean up from this server.

(I also demoted it to a member server, so now it truly is just a file server.....but I discovered that references to the Microsoft/Exchange folder in the Default profile was keeping new users from being able to login to the server waiting for the user profile service to load.)

Thanks!

Thanks Henry!

Already moved AD/DNS/DHCP to another server, so no worries there.

Actually can't remove IIS, as there actually is another app on the server that leverages it. Guess I should have mentioned that!

Thanks,

Jonboy

You should be able to remove the IIS role now that you have removed Exchange since your file server doesn't need it to function. Did you already migrate the ADDS and DNS roles to another server? If not, I recommend doing that first if possible to prevent any AD/DNS issues. And make sure that you have a good backup before you start the migration and removal of roles.
