I still HATE HATE HATE that they changed the Outlook icon color several years ago.
EVERY DAY I click on Word, at least once, when I wanted Outlook.
I HATE IT.
</rant>
Visio shares the same colour too.
I’ve got mine set up in a RemoteApp environment so Outlook is at the top level with the other three key apps I use day to day. The rest are in a folder on that Desktop.

Microsoft really wants that data. Wow.

New Outlook loads all your data – all of it – to Microsoft servers. All processing is done on Microsoft servers. The New Outlook is basically just a web app, like OWA, even though it provides some offline capabilities.
The _entire_ contents of a user’s mailbox gets sent up to Microsoft’s servers.
The “New Outlook” is more like a RemoteApp than anything. Everything it shows is a “window” into the contents sitting on that Microsoft server.
The “New Outlook” does _NOT_ connect back to the on-premises Exchange Server. All that data go bubbye into the cloud.
M365 they already have it but may be restricted in what they can and cannot do with it due to paying customers.
The “New Outlook” solves that by sucking the data off to another server outside of the M365 ecosystem.
That’s how I read all of this.
The “why”? Why do you think?

What’s not clear is what’s in the Terms & Conditions.
I’m thinking there’s a contractual barrier there for M365 since customers are paying for the data to be hosted on Microsoft’s servers with an understanding that the data remains theirs.
The “New Outlook” removes that contractual barrier by copying the data onto servers where Microsoft can do with it as they see fit.

Microsoft basically told my supervisor that I was paranoid.
We are GCC, but I still do not trust Microsoft.
I’ve had a good career by remaining “paranoid” 😊

They’ve already been harvesting that data ever since it was released. All that data resides on non-Exchange servers.
Ugh … Apple Mail app doing the same thing then?

Thanks, that’s the link we sent to MS:
“Do you know if this is something only for the Commercial space or is this something that is coming to the GCC?
Microsoft's new Outlook client quietly moves your email to the cloud [xda-developers.com]”
This their response:
The answer is neither. This is in the consumer space and it's relative to using the Outlook client for 3rd party email providers (for example if you had a gmail account or a comcast account). Obviously if you are using a hotmail or outlook.com [outlook.com] or msn.com [msn.com] email it's already stored in the Microsoft cloud. So, here this is talking about the client storing a copy of your email in a Microsoft service, I assume as a backup of your Outlook client. I'm not as familiar with our data access policies in consumer scenarios but even there I believe we commit that we are not mining customer data.
In our commercial offerings we have strict and audited policies about data access (or more the lack thereof).

I would read the EULA for New Outlook if I could find it.
Microsucks seems to be very reluctant to provide it in any form.
Hmmm. I read it when I installed it in a VM. You can probably do the same.
