Graham Turner
Prior to each home game Wolves Museum hosts the Matchday Museum Experience, and at the Aston Villa game was
a first and a very special guest appearance.
We were delighted to welcome Graham Turner, who is the first former manager to take the role of the VIP guest
for the Matchday Museum Experience. It was a perfect fixture to host Graham within the Museum, as he managed Aston Villa between 1984 and 1986 after a fantastic 6-year stint at Shrewsbury Town.
In September 1986 Turner became Wolves Manager, less than two weeks after he had departed Villa Park. What Graham
Turner achieved at Wolves will always be remembered. Graham is one of the most important managers we have ever had.
Wolves were close to promotion in the first season in 1986-87 but lost out to Aldershot in the 1987 Play Off
Final. This however was a blessing in disguise. Wolves were Division 4 Champions in 1988 and won the Sherpa Van Trophy the same year. The Division 3 title followed in 1989.
Graham Turner returned Wolves to the second tier in his first two full seasons at the club. This was also achieved
in the best possible way with two back-to-back League titles.
Both titles are very special here at Wolves and the Sherpa Van Final win is also extremely iconic and such a
key moment in our history. This was the Renaissance of Wolverhampton Wanderers after the huge struggles prior to that which had seen Wolves nearly go out of business twice.
Thanks to Graham, we were firmly re-established as a Second-Tier club.
