to WISER Lawyers
I did upload a profile, but see that many of you don't have one...
(those who do, there is a wealth of experience and diversity out
there). So, I thought I'd introduce myself.
I belong to a prestigious group of mature age graduates who are unable
to forge a career in the private legal game, depite being WISER and
willing to be exploited.
I used to teach German, I have also done bookkeeping and a host of
other administrative fun, set up a family law service in the community
sector, managed 200 odd volunteers, I have been a Judge's associate,
an intern in the UN, and managed a sentencing database. I also
suffered the indignity of being a paralegal - as a lawyer. I confess,
I do currently have the best job in the world - as a Legal and Policy
Officer in the Courts. The only thing it is 2 days/week and is
temporary.
My CV has had many incanartions. I have left out years and years of
experience. That just makes the interviewers choke when they see me.
Grey hair and wrinkles are not that easy to conceal, despite available
products. Almost 2 years into post admission I am wondering what
next. I still volunteer in the community sector, although I have been
informed that that isn't law. And unlike when I was a teacher, with a
young child, I am willing to do country service - any country!
I look forward to the increase in mature aged grads getting more work
opportunities.
Good luck with all your own endeavours, be it finishing your degree,
getting admitted, or finding (keeping) work.
Best regards
Jane
