LGBTQ Counselor

Position Summary
The LGBTQ Counselor works within the Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV) program. This position will support survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking in LGBTQ communities. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about diversity within and among LGBTQ communities. We are particularly interested in candidates who can take an intersectional approach, recognizing the collective impact of homophobia, transphobia, racism, classism, sexism, and other dimensions of oppression.

Job Qualifications
The LGBTQ+ Counselor must successfully complete the 40 hour New Jersey State Confidential Sexual Violence Advocate training and the 40 hour Domestic Violence Training provided by Services Empowering Rights of Victims. Knowledgeable about the diversity of LGBTQ+ identities, cultures and communities, intersectionality, social and other indicators of LGBTQ+ individuals’ mental health and holistic well-being, human development, and identity development. This position requires a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field. A New Jersey State license for professional counseling is preferred.
· Provide individual and group counseling to children, adolescent and adult survivors of sexual violence.
· Create individualized treatment plans with clients
· Coordinate client services with advocates, case managers, and support team
· Provide LGBTQ survivors of violence with assistance and support including telephone and in-person crisis intervention; accompaniments to social service, medical and criminal justice-related appointments and proceedings; and advocacy in social service, medical, and criminal justice systems and institutions.
· Assist with supportive and/or psycho-educational groups for LGBTQ survivors.
· Identify and create additional programming and resources appropriate for client needs.
· Participate in community collaboration meetings, including LGBTQ Task Force meetings
· Develop and advance relationships, partnerships, and collaborative projects that facilitate recognition of LGBTQ identities in institutions that provide services to survivors.
· Complete monthly and quarterly statistics and reports.
· Assist with office procedures pertinent to the operations of the program.
