Job Description: Policy Advisor
The Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) develops policies and programs, provides training and prevention education, conducts research and evaluations, performs community outreach, and operates the New York City Family Justice Centers. The Office collaborates with City agencies and community stakeholders to ensure access to inclusive services for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV).

ENDGBV’s Policy and Training Institute (the Institute), which includes a policy team, a training team, and the NYC Healthy Relationship Training Academy, leads ENDGBV’s training and prevention work.  It was created to enhance City agency and community-based organizations’ responses to the issues of domestic and gender-based violence, identify key areas for policy change and development, and engage in primary prevention through work with young people throughout New York City.

The Policy Team conducts policy research, develops policy recommendations, and develops policies and programs to address systemic gaps for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.  The Policy Team also leads the Office’s equity and inclusion work, housing the Language Access Coordinator, Disability Service Facilitator, and LGBTQ Liaison and chairing the office’s Equity Committee.

The Policy Advisor reports to the Director of Policy and is responsible for the research, crafting, editing, and presentation of policy and training initiatives. The Policy Advisor will work closely with key ENDGBV staff and external stakeholders to implement and coordinate agency initiatives and directives,

The Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) is recruiting for one (1) Community Coordinator to function as a Policy Advisor, who will report directly to the Director of Policies and will:

• Coordinate collaborations between ENDGBV and external stakeholders.
• Plan, develop, track and monitor implementation of initiatives related to gender based and domestic violence, including intimate partner violence, family violence, elder abuse, trafficking, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Quantitatively and qualitatively assess and analyze issues and potential initiatives, including an evaluation of best and/or promising practices related to services for people impacted by gender based and domestic violence.
• Create, consult, inform and/or facilitate training on gender based and domestic violence, including intimate partner violence, family violence, elder abuse, trafficking, sexual assault, and stalking.
• Perform and oversee other tasks, including research, policy drafting, and agency document creation as directed.
Represent ENDGBV on task forces, workgroups, and committees as needed.

Minimum Qualifying Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
• Demonstrated professional experience related to gender-based and domestic violence required.
• Demonstrated professional experience related to one or more of the following issues required: immigration, LGBTQ, disability-related, criminal, and civil legal, legislative, New York City government, non-profit and/or anti-oppression.
• Strong analytical and information-gathering skills.
• Self-motivated and -directed, with an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly in writing and speaking.
• Demonstrated leadership and/or management experience in collaborative settings.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, coordinate and manage projects, initiatives, or programs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, high comfort level public speaking in various settings.
• Proficiency in written or spoken Spanish or another NYC top language preferred.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and other common office and design software preferred.
