EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary of Position:

 

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of the agency, including the development, organizational, financial obligations and implementation of sexual assault, child advocacy, prevention, and outreach programs.

 

Job Classification:  Full-time Exempt

 

Reports To:  Board of Directors

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

1.                  Community and Public Relations: Assures that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders. Both pro-actively and reactively responds to public discourse in or via the news media that involves or could impact sexual assault survivors, the programs that serve them, and/or their loved ones.  Act as primary spokesperson and authorized representative of the Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center and Child Advocacy Center in establishing sexual assault crisis programs in the community. Participate in public speaking presentations to community groups and professional training for other agencies.

 

2.                  Board Administration and Support: Supports operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between the Board and staff, and administering policy adopted by the Board.  Assist the Board of Directors with development of a yearly strategic plan and give monthly reports to the Board on the progress of the plan, the financial status of the organization and any activities affecting the programs.  Provide research and information to the Board of Directors concerning any committee activities and policy decisions.

 

3.                  Fiscal, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management: Develop and recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines and according to current state and federal laws and regulations. Ensures that accurate fiscal records are kept and arranged for an annual independent audit. Maintain internal control of finances, and monitor monthly expenditures of all grant funding.

 

4.                  Fundraising: Supervises fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funding agencies, submitting proposals, and administering fundraising records and documentation.

 

5.                  Systems Advocacy: Represents the best interests of sexual assault survivors by providing direct services to them by advocating on their behalf with statewide, local, regional, and national systems. Direct victim services to include crisis intervention, advocacy, accompaniment, and referrals.  Establish positive working relationships with other agencies such as the law enforcement, medical personnel, local Board of Education and court system personnel (including the resources of Georgia Southern University) to provide a continuum of care for all victims of sexual assault.

 

6.                  Grants Administration: Research possibilities of financial support such as Federal and State grants, foundations, local government support. Supervises the dispersing of funds and/or funding information to the agency.  Ensures that grants applied for by local programs comply with funding regulations. Administers the funding formula for division of funds between the programs, and assures that programs are reimbursed promptly following receipt of all necessary documentation.

 

 

7.                  Human Resources Management: Effectively manages the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current state and federal laws and regulations. Supervises all employees and conducts regular formal performance evaluations as well as informal evaluations on an ongoing basis. Provide personnel administration such as firing, hiring, and the supervision of all personnel.

 

8.                  Maintain statistical data on all programs and make periodic reports to funding sources and the Board.

 

9.                  Coordinate and facilitate collaborative meetings such as the Sexual Assault Response Team meetings and Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.

 

10.              Provide crisis line coverage and perform backup on-call duties as necessary. 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

1. Minimum of a Master’s Degree, from an accredited school in a related field of study (Social Work, Public Health, Sociology, or Criminal Justice  and three years’ management/leadership experience.

 

 2. Experience with the operations of a non-profit organization.

 

 3. Clear understanding of the individual and social dynamics of sexual assault and strong commitment to the field of sexual violence prevention.

 

4. Excellent written and oral communications skills.

 

5. Ability to work with diverse groups of people

 

6. Trained as, or ability and willingness to become trained and serve as, a Victim’s Advocate and a Child Forensic Interviewer.
