Salary: $48,000 - $60,000/year 

Work location: Fully Remote

Description: 

The Army of Survivors (TAOS) is looking for a Marketing and Communications Director to join our nonprofit organization. We are a survivor-founded and led organization whose mission is to bring awareness, accountability, and transparency to sexual violence against all athletes at all levels. Our work is survivor-defined and rooted in the principles of social justice. It is guided by up-to-date research, the experiences of survivors, and by an intersectional analysis of how systems impact the lives of survivors. 

 

The Marketing and Communications Director will be a creative and highly organized content producer who will be responsible for creating, managing, and distributing world-class content to help TAOS further our mission. This role requires equal amounts of editorial skills, creativity, and technical savvy, as well as strong talent in web design basics, usability best practices, and project management. This position is a fast-paced, hands-on, highly tactical job that collaborates closely with all team members. 

 

This person will work directly with the Executive Director and the Director of Programs to develop and implement initiatives that increase the organization’s visibility. They will help our team create and distribute compelling content, program-based resources, and fundraising materials. In this role, they will manage the TAOS brand at the global level including public relations. They will also work closely with the Fundraising & Development Committee of the Board to ensure seamless integration of fundraising activities with TAOS social media and communications. This includes managing TAOS’ donor management system. 

 

General Responsibilities

 

● Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan aligned with TAOS’s strategic priorities. The plan will include outreach goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics for reputation and brand management and furthering the reputation of TAOS with the media, board, donors, local associations, the public, partners, public officials, and other key stakeholders. 

● Develop and oversee an annual marketing and communications plan 

● Maintain a content calendar including promotions of community events, workshops, educational events, appearances, and other communication opportunities 

● Prepare an annual budget for marketing-related activities 

● Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners on social media and beyond 

● Act as the TAOS representative on Communications Groups for various movements and collaborative partnerships 

● Create regular content that showcases our organization and furthers our mission of awareness, advocacy, and education 

● Promote resources that we have available as well as resources within the Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct (RVSM) space 

● Respond with a trauma-informed, crisis interventionist lens when survivors reach out via social media or other channels 

● Manage public relations for TAOS, including writing press releases and developing and maintaining relationships with national and global press 

● Work to establish TAOS board members and staff as leading voices on the topic of sexual abuse in sports 

● Assist in the coverage of special events within our program 

● Oversee maintenance of TAOS website including blog posts and page updates

 

Qualifications: 

 

● 5+ years experience in marketing, preferably with a background in nonprofit or sports marketing 

● Embrace TAOS’ mission 

● Flexible and team-oriented 

● Outstanding communication, presentation, editing, and writing skills 

● Knowledge about RVSM, trauma-informed, crisis intervention practices when working with survivors 

● Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field 

● In-depth experience and understanding of Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct RVSM or other related field 

● Knowledge of sports and the unique dynamics faced by athletes in a competitive environment 

● Strong experience preparing and successfully implementing a marketing strategy 

● Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude 

● Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms 

● Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time 

● Oversee social media marketing, email communications with stakeholders, advertising, and other communications. 

● A desire to have a positive impact that benefits athletes and athlete survivors of sexual abuse through their work. 

● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism and a willingness to commit to cultural humility as a lifelong process of self-reflection and self-critique whereby the individual not only learns about another's culture, but one starts with an examination of her/his/their own beliefs and cultural identities.
