The Florida Council Against Sexual Violence is hiring an Outreach Counselor/Advocate to be located in Key West. A job description is below. Additional details and the application portal are available here.
REQUIREMENTS AT ENTRY:
· Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or another related field, from an accredited four-year college or university.
· A minimum of six-months of post-graduate experience providing counseling/psychotherapy in a clinical setting, preferably with trauma survivors.
· LCSW, LMHC, LMFT or license eligible.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as they apply to community-based sexual violence services, trauma and trauma-focused clinical services, a coordinated community response to and for survivors, and FCASV’s work more broadly.
· Demonstrated understanding of how the overlap of various social identities (race, gender, gender identity, class, size, ability, sexuality, etc.) contributes to the specific type of systemic oppression and discrimination experienced by an individual.
· Commitment to recognizing and examining the ways in which one’s identity, and the identities of others, play out within the therapeutic relationship and in the workplace.
Work occurs on scheduled shifts and involves the application of a variety of counseling techniques. Employees in this position interview clients, provide crisis counseling, psychotherapy, and supportive counseling to individuals and groups, and referrals for other services and support. Work is reviewed by a professional supervisor through case conferences, reports, and individual supervision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
· Of the psychological concepts and principles of human development and behavior in the social environment.
· Of social casework and crisis intervention methods, techniques, and applications.
· Of the dynamics of sexual assault and child abuse.
· Of trauma-informed advocacy, counseling, and psychotherapeutic techniques.
· Of the laws pertaining to sexual battery and child abuse, and the criminal legal system and processes.
· Of the resources available in the community.
Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to establish rapport with clients under adverse conditions
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
· Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency or crisis situations
· Ability to work independently and use sound judgment and to adhere to agency policies and procedures
· Ability to prepare technical and professional reports using computer-based applications
· Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
· Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals representing diverse cultures and backgrounds and function calmly in stressful situations, which requires a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
· Prepare accurate reports and case summaries
· Manage a caseload
· Prepare related literature and make public presentations about available services, as necessary
· Maintain records and documentation
· Assess the client’s/victim’s immediate needs and ensure client’s receipt of needed services through personal service or making appropriate referral
· Exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information; analyze and project consequences of decisions and/or recommendations
· Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence Core Service and Ethical Standards
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or political affiliation.
