Is there a reason that build the libnss_cache and deprecate nssdb?

Hello,
I've gone through the project wiki but cannot find documents explaining the reason. libnss_cache seems to be released because of this conversation, but I'm wondering why nssdb is deprecated?

also could someone comment on sssd as an addition of MotivationBehindNssCache and AlternateSolutions?

Thanks in advance!

I forget the details but I think it was for performance reasons.  At the time, perhaps, bdb had locking issues and so libnss-cache was created based on plain files, with an optional index for speed.  Something stirs in my memory about depending on an external make-db command for nssdb also had its problems, but again I forget the details.

I don't know what sssd is.
