Bhatti Mines Adult Education Project
Step out of your comfort zone, have a close look at the world around you and help the people in changing their lives!
About the community: Bhatti Mines is a village near Chatarpur where the villagers are living since 1970. Most of them work as labourers in various part of NCR according to the demand. They get work for 8-10 days in a month and remain idle for the other days. Most of them are illiterate but can write their names in Hindi. Some of them can't even do that.
Our intervention: Since September, we are teaching around 25 women of that village but our aim is to increase the number in the near future. The education is mostly practical and focuses on empowering them for their holistic development. Their willingness to learn and improve their way of living is amazing.
We learn together. We share ideas. We discuss issues. We laugh. We are an awesome gang! :)
We aim at:
- People being freed from the oppression of being illiterate
- Providing awareness and skills which may end up in employment generation
- Providing a process of critical self-reflection that can lead to over-all development and boost of confidence.
What qualities we demand from you as a volunteer:
- Strong belief and commitment to work for the society.
- Genuine interest in teaching and ability to communicate with people of different age group.
- Innovative ideas for the community’s overall development.
- Regularity and devotion towards the project.
What you shall reap:
- A feel good factor when you see the smiles on their dry faces admiring your little efforts.
- Exposure in handling challenging situations and understanding the need of those at the bottom of the pyramid.
- A chance to bring a social change in the lives of a community comprising of 40000 people.
Winter Vacations Volunteering: The volunteer needs to brainstorm to assess their needs, develop content suitable for them and teach them 2-3 days per week.
Semester Volunteering: Each Volunteer will need to go to Bhatti Mines on one of the days on the weekend. One trip shall take around 3 to 4 hours.
Cab conveyance shall be arranged through NSS.
