About Toys From Trash :
Toys from Trash is an initiative where a group of volunteers spend some time with kids making learning fun for them using some science based toy. These toys serve two purposes - i) These toys are helpful to explain subtle science concepts to students and arouse curiosity in their minds.
ii) These toys bring a smile on the faces of the kids who cannot afford them but instead they can make them on their own.
About the Internship :
The internship will be approximately for a duration of 16 days, where the volunteers have to make toys in groups on various scientific concepts such as light, sound, electromagnetism. These toys/experiments will be demonstrated in a session at a Teaching Project during the summer and later used in the Summer for sessions at various schools and teaching projects. Exact details and workload of the internship is as mentioned below.
What you need to do in the Internship ?
- Make toys/design experiments on various science concepts to be demonstrated to children of various ages (ranging from class IV to class X ).
- The toys will be made with the help of videos of Mr. Arvind Gupta and various other professionals. Moreover, the volunteers will also have to make a certain number of toys themselves which must not be derived from any online resources directly.
- Volunteers also need to prepare adequate documentation of the toys/experiments in both Text and AV format.
- The documentation must contain how the toys can be explained to children in a fun-filled manner so that they can relate it to real life phenomenons/happenings.
- The documentation must be suitable for various age groups, so it may happen that a single toy may have the need to be documented more than once to suit various age groups.
- One or more demonstration sessions may be held during the Summer (depending on availability) in NSS Teaching Projects in which the volunteers will have to demonstrate the toys they have made to the students.
- Firstly, since it is building science experiments and toys, it won't be monotonous and we'll try to keep the experience as enjoyable as possible.
- You will have the chance to apply whatever you learnt in your JEE preparation and IIT Delhi in the form of toys.
- Get an experience of working in a team with your fellow mates.
- Demonstration sessions require you to communicate effectively with the children. Hence, the internship opportunity will also help you in the betterment of your communication skills.
- Last but not the least, it will be a fun journey.
