I was trying to get a large company to support honour the org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType in their application, but they push back with the quite reasonable “Looking at http://nspasteboard.org, it's not clear if any apps use it”.

Would it perhaps be useful to enumerate whichever apps actually support at least some of this protocol?

Obviously, Keyboard Maestro does, and 1Password does. I presume most of the other clipboard history apps do, and I am hopeful most of the other password apps do.

Having a list of apps that do on that page would encourage others to add their app names to the list presumably…?

Thanks,
Peter.

I agree, that's a good idea.

If there was such a list, iClip (http://iclipapp.com) should be on it.

You can also put both Typinator and PopChar on the list:

Hi there!

Paste (https://pasteapp.io) follows the convention as well.

Thanks,
D.

If any of you know of other tools that record the clipboard and have not responded here yet, please let us know, and we'll see if they're not on the list yet, and try to invite them, okay?

E.g, "iClipboard" (which is not the same as "iClip") should be on the list, but the developer has abandoned development a while ago, so they're not keeping current any more.

Not sure about tools that just sync the Clipboard, such as "Command-C" (abandoned) and "Underpass.app" (under active development).

Yoink surely should be on here, I think. Is it?

Is the question asking specifically about org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType or about org.nspasteboard.* indicators in general?

If someone is collecting information about applications, I think it would also a good idea to categorize applications by their typical usage of the clipboard. I'm thinking of categories like
- history utility
- clipboard generator
Are there other types I am not aware of? Should we also mention whether an application changes and later restores the clipboard?

Of course, certain software tools may belong to more than one category, so this would be checkboxes rather than radio buttons.

PopChar and Typinator both fall in the "generator" category: They put data on the clipboard, tell the currently active application to paste the data, and then restore the clipboard to the original state.

Cheers,
gue

Keyboard Maestro is both. So categories may be interesting.

Password apps, including 1Password.

I would think you don't really want to get too far down this rabbit hole. That sounds like an implementation detail that might change in the future.

Hi,

I'd like to add one app to the list:

<https://manytricks.com/butler>

Good old Butler's clipboard history and generator use "org.nspasteboard.AutoGeneratedType", ".ConcealedType", ".RestoredType", and ".TransientType", along with some of the original types that inspired NSPasteboard.org, such as TypeIt4Me's "com.typeit4me.clipping", Typinator's "Pasteboard generator type", and my own "de.petermaurer.TransientPasteboardType", as also seen in vintage Text(Ex)pander versions.

another Peter.

Hi Peter,

Sorry it's taken me so long. I've gone ahead and added a list of applications to the page. Feel free to submit additional apps and/or notes on existing apps.

Thanks!

Hi Greg,

Thanks for making the list.

Please fix two errors with our products:
a) PopChar is spelled in CamelCase with a capital C.
b) The correct URL for Typinator is https://www.ergonis.com/products/typinator/
(https://ergonis.com/typinator produces a 404 error).

If you think that this is helpful, you may also want to add a link to our information page about these clipboard additions:
This may be helpful because it explains in more detail what the expected content of the "Pasteboard generator type" should be.

Thanks. gue

Hi Greg,

would you please update iClip's two links to http://iclipapp.com/

Also, the CopyPaste site seems to be dead (and IIRC, the tool has been abandoned a while ago, too). (Again, two links on the site.)

Lastly, the author of Yoink! confirmed to me personally that his tool is also following the protocols. I've asked him to join this list or write to Greg.

Thanks for keeping it all orderly :)

Actually, I got that confused with another app that lived in the menu bar, can't recall its name.

Also, the link just need to be updated to https://plumamazing.com/product/copypaste-pro-for-mac/

Hi Günther,

Thanks for the fixes. Apologies for missing the CamelCase. These are live now.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the feedback. I've updated CopyPaste to CopyPaste Pro, along with its new link. I've also updated iClip's links as requested. These are live on the site now. Shift-reload if necessary.

Cheers,

Hey Greg. My app Pure Paste (https://sindresorhus.com/pure-paste) respects the nspasteboard.org conventions. Could you add it?
