The National Strategy Forum is co-sponsoring the conference, From the War Room to the Court Room: Asymmetric Warfare and International Law in the 21st Century, on Monday, October 18 at the Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Illinois

 

The conference's keynote luncheon is with General Paul J. Kern, former Commanding General of the Army Materiel Command and former Senior Advisor for Army Research, Development and Acquisition.   He also headed the Department of Defense Internal Abu Ghraib investigation.  His lecture will address the changing strategies of continued armed conflict and asymmetric warfare tactics.

 

In addition to lunch, you are welcome to attend all conference sessions.  This day-long conference will feature expert panels discussing topics such as the compatibility of the law of war and international law, and will analyze case studies of military operations, decision-making and application of the law in current areas of conflict such as Iraq and Afghanistan.  Panelists include Charles Allen, Department of Defense Deputy General Counsel for International Affairs, Ambassador Arthur Lenk, Director of the Department of International Law in the Office of the Legal Advisor of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lieutenant General Dana K. Chipman, Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army.  Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in the conference discussions.  A copy of the agenda is attached for your information.

LOCATION:         Main Lounge, 2nd floor, Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd.

TIME:                    Conference begins at 9:30am; luncheon Noon-1:45pm; Conference adjournment at 5:35pm

FEE:                        $50.00/person for luncheon and conference; attendees may choose to attend entire day or the keynote luncheon only

 

The conference is co-sponsored by the National Strategy Forum, the DePaul University College of Law International Human Rights Institute, the Public Affairs Committee of the Union League Club, and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

 

A post-conference report will be published by the cosponsoring organizations.  Comments made by panelists and attendees are not for attribution.

 

The registration fee of $50.00 includes all the conference sessions and keynote luncheon.  You may register for the conference via our website, http://www.nationalstrategy.com/ , calling our office at 312-697-1286, or returning the attached registration form with your check/money order.  If you wish to only attend the keynote luncheon, you may do so.
